A question about PrintScreen

Hi all,

Just a simple question in regards to VIC 2.0.1 - is it possible to take screen captures of active windows in the console of a VM and paste it on my machine?

For example, if I wanted to take a screen capture of an install screen on one of my VM's and paste it on my computer - is it doable? I haven't found a way to do so (or even if it's possible).

Thanks,

Jon

No you can not take a shot of a window inside the console just the console window itself.

With the console window open, and showing the screen/information you want to capture, simply click on the desktop of the machine from which you are running the client, and take the screen capture from here.

CTRL-ALT-PrintScrn, within the Windows VM will still capture the active window. While you cannot paste it directly to your management station, pasting graphics still works within the Windows VM... so you can at least paste the window capture into a file (via mspaint, wordpad, etc) there.

Not as efficient as it could be if vmtools allowed graphics on the clipboard, but for documentation purposes it still gets the job done! (without having to crop down each VM console image) Smiley Happy

The best way to get a screen capture I have found is to use Techsmith's Snagit program. It really works a treat and when you take the snapshot you can edit, highlight etc etc. For documentation it is a must!

Maybe you can use DemoCreator to record the process of installing, and then you can add some highlights and callouts to something important, maybe it helps you, you can view the created samples by click here.
