A general system error occured: Error[VdbODBCError] -1

Hi,

I have Virtual Cener 4.01 on windows 2008 R2 64bit server.

I have ESXi hosts with 4.1_update01 patch and have the free SQL server db for the VC

I was logged in the VC and notived one of the servers was disconnected.

So I tried to connect it again and I got "A general system error occurred: failed to ..... Error: Error[VdbODBCError] (-1) "ODBC error: (40001) - [Microsoft][ODBC SQL ..... ERROR [42000"

I have followed http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003980

And have shrunked the log file and restarted management agent but still no luck.

The VM's on the server are still online. Can anyone please help. Thanks

The log file has this

Hi..

Don't know the exact reason to why you're getting this error, but are you trying to manage an ESXi 4.1 Update 1 host with vCenter 4.0.x?

If so, this is not supported.. Page 3 here http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf

Hi Rubeck,

Thanks for the reply. I have upgraded to VC build 345043.

Strange things are happening. One of the host got disconnted and the vm's became orphaned.

Then I shh'ed into one of the host and when I cat /etc/hosts it shows the IP address and host name of other other host...and I can't login to that host as I get invalid password.
