14 day grace period is not working

I have vcenter 4.0 managing ESX 3.5 servers. Using the FlexVM license manager that comes with vcenter. vCenter is running in a VM. When the vCenter VM is off,  the hosts have no licensing and I can't even start a VM. Turn the vCenter server back on and licensing and functionality returns. I am not getting the 14 day grace period. Has anyone seen this before?

I've seen this once. The only way to solve this, was to generate a host based license to be able to start the (virtualized) license server again.

If you have a physical system (for example the backup server), you can move the license server there.

But if your hardware is in vSphere HCL, I suggest to move also the host to 4.x version.
