system availability without snmp

I have several network devices I would like to monitor availability only. I do not have snmp access and cannot install the agant on these devices. Can this be done on hyperic and how if it can? I have tried setting up a network device and supplied the info but it keeps giving an error and wants a proper snmp config. I am using version 4.1.0.

Thank you

Adding a little more info. I cannot supply a fully qualified domain name because it is not know. We just have an ip address and am looking just at collecting availability for specific devices.

Well, you can always create platform service to some other agent which can for example ping those ip's.

If there's some other ways to check its availability, you can create script service.

Scripting is usually most efficient tool to do checks for 'weird' devices.

Hi,

FQDNs is not so important. You could use your own FQDN. The IP address is relevant.
If you setup Ping services, please make sure that you can contact (ping) your network devices from the platform where you are going to add the ping service by using ping on the command line.

Cheers,
