Weblogic 7.x support

Hi,

I am currently evaluating Hyperic HQ to monitor a (mainly) J2EE environment. I like what I am seeing so far, so first of all: congrats for everything that's already in there 🙂

One of the applications I need to monitor is Weblogic 7.0. Although it doesn't seem officially supported in the 'Application servers' list (http://www.hyperic.com/products/managed/weblogic-management.htm), it is listed in the documentation (http://support.hyperic.com/confluence/display/DOCSHQ27/Weblogic+Admin+7.0+server). I have tried to setup the 'weblogic.installpath' property in agent.properties and launch an auto-discovery, but nothing shows up (although it works for Weblogic 8.1, so I guess this is the correct thing to do).

So, I guess my question is: is Weblogic 7.x supported ? If not, will it be ? If so, how to 'discover' it ?

Thanks.

We dropped support for 7.0 in HQ 2.6, but we can easily bring it back.
In the meantime, you should be able add the server manually by
clicking the "New Server" link from your platform view and select
"Weblogic 8.1 Admin". After entering the t3 url, credentials and
checking the Auto-discover box, your app server instance(s) and
services will be auto-discovered. I will bring back the 7.0 support
for the plugin and post an update here soon. It's just a 2-line or
so change the plugin, but I'll need to re-install 7.0 to test against.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for you fast answer. Is there a reason why you dropped support for 7.x and not 6.x ?

Anyway, using the Weblogic 8.1 server type worked. I couldn't get it to discover the applications but it probably comes from my (somewhat weird) configuration, so I'll dig a little more.

Once again, thank you. Hyperic HQ is begining to look like a really good alternative to what we are using...

All of our customers had migrated to 8.1 with the exception of one
who still had a handful of 6.1 production servers. From the plugin
perspective it is nearly identical to 8.1, we should have just left
the 7.0 type in there. 7.0 support has been revived and I attached
an updated version of the plugin here:
http://jira.hyperic.com/browse/HHQ-128

If you could tell us about your configuration, we can try to help
figure out why it didn't discover your applications.

Thank you.

Thank you for you offer, but we have a few things to test before going any further with this.
