We've started looking at triggering SMS alerts from Hyperic and I wanted to get some feedback from what people have got working so far. Is there any plan to interface directly with the major bulk gateway interface APIs this provides a bit more flexibility, security and reliability than using an email to sms gateway.
The email to sms gateways I've looked at so far either seem to be based on mobile@provider.com (the concern here is that without any authentication someone is going to find out this address and deluge us with spam) or generic_address@provider.com (for example clickatell where the mobile number is hardcoded in the body of the email and you have to replace blank spaces with "+" symbols). To get the last solution to work we would probably need to modify the SMS template and hardcode the target mobile number and with numerous different people we want to alert this would be impractical.
There was another thread on this forum about using smstools but we don't really want to have a mobile phone linked to our monitoring server in the datacentre.
Any suggestions from people who've actually got this working would be greatfully appreciated.
