RSS feed authentication

Hey folks I'm charged with presenting a view into my managed servers that is Manager friendly. I've chosen to use your RSS feeds from the dashboard favorites as a first pass. However because my server farm is firewalled away from the world using iGoogle or some other online mashup RSS reader is no good. Firefox Subscription is a good choice, but among other issues, the Firefox reader requires that I login each time I want to use read the feed.

We use Blackberry's pretty heavily and there is an awesome free Reader which alerts with a tone when the Feed is updated, but of course I can't get it to monitor behind my firewall. Or can I(homework for the student)???

does anyone out there have an example of a successfuly intranet implementation of Hyperic RSS information? What Reader did you utilize?

Hi,

just an idea:
If you're using a CMS for your intranet, please check if the CMS can reagregate RSS feeds. Maybe you can use it as a proxy to publish your RSS feed and pass the authentication.

Our intranet does support Feed aggregation but I don't have rights to that functionality. I used a deki wiki which has a pretty cool bunch of mashup API's, including RSS Feeds. After a bit of wrangling it turns out that if I have an authenticated session running I can expose the Hyperic Dashboard feeds to my hearts content. however when that session expires or a new browser is popped up, I must login to view the feed links. However updates pushed to the deki wiki feed reader (like most) push updates based on the token provided by hyperic (I think).

thanks again,

Deeboh

MindTouch Deki will have support for authenticated RSS feeds next week with the release of 8.05.1. I encourage you to upgrade your Deki and that should solve the issues with the session expiration.

They Coreyg. I've had jay-cooke installed for a couple of weeks now. I'm not sure if it is the Feed Token from Hyperic or the Deki - Feed Reader, but I no longer have to authenticate to recieve updated RSS notifications. Unfortunately my boss wants me to use sharepoint now:). My work is never done...

Thanks folks,

Since you seem to be with Mindtouch - would you have any tips for monitoring the MindTouch wiki with HQ other then process and URL monitors?

Thanks

Awesome news, Ed! I met the mindtouch guys at SCALE earlier this year... and have some business cards if you want, ping me offline and I can possibly connect those dots.

Also... don't forget to submit it to the HyperFORGE so you can be eligible for the Plugin of the Month contest. We'll make you famous in the monthly newsletter! 😉
