Monitoring Windows services

I'm a windows admin and looking to test out Hyperic for monitoring machine status (ping, etc) and windows services. My question is how to configure the conditions under the Alert properties for a service to alert me when the service is stopped/failed and then how to send a recovery notice if the service recovers either on it's own or by the action of an admin. Maybe I'm being blind, but I don't see where in the documentation it says how to set this. (Specifically, I want to monitor Exchange services and some custom DMS services across various servers)

So:
1. How do I set a heartbeat monitor for a service that will alert me if the service is no longer running?
2. How do I set it to alert me (once) that the service has recovered?

Note: I have configured the service under the resource (machine).

Sorry for digging out this old thread, but I need some information on how to configure plugin to monitor the windows services.

Were you able to implement this? I am trying in HQ 4.6.5 server with 4.5.3 agent.

Thanks, Pawan If you find this information useful, please award points for "correct" or "helpful".
