Im trying to deploy the hyperic agents to various linux and Solaris boxes. I want to push
the agent.properties file to these systems before installing the agent. I DONT want to have the
HQ servera userid and passwd inserted in this file. But I believe they are necessary as if NOT
included you are prompted for this information. Since Im not logging into each agent machine, I wont be able to reply to these messages. Can anyone tell me the purpose of
the userid and passwd en try here ????? and why its necessary?? Is there a workaround here. Also If I put an agent.properties file in the .hq directory and do a clean install will it
pick up the information in the .hq agent properties file, OR will I have to run a hq-agent.sh -setup later ???? I using open source server and agents NOT enterprise .

Good idea 😉 Did you ever think of building a Solaris package ?

Why not ? For security reasons ? Username and password are only necessary during installation. So you may change the password before installing and configuration of the new clients and use it as a one time password. The user you enter in the configuration file is also the owner of the resources.

I advise you to build some custom HQ Agent tar.gz archives with your specific configuration properties according to the documentation:
