How do you monitor non-SNMP capable devices?

I have a Buffalo storage NAS that is not SNMP capable, but I would like to monitor at least that it is on the network. Is there anyway to enable just ICMP to a device?

I can monitor the CIFS shares via a client mounting the filesystem.

Yes, you can ping devices. Just select platform where you have agent. Then from HQ add 'InetAddress Ping' platform service. Just select host which can send icmp request to your nas.

Hi,

if the NAS has an in-built Webinterface, you may also setup a HTTP check. It's also a platform service.

Cheers,
