How can I monitor Linux directory permissions

I have a request to monitor the availability of and permissions to a list of directories on a Linux system. If the directory permissions are 777, but are changed to say 755, they need an alert (because of the application's access requirements). I have no problems what-so-ever with monitoring the availability of the directory, but cannot find a method to monitor the permissions. Am I missing something?

Thanks...Keith

The Fileserver Directory service is what you want:

http://support.hyperic.com/confluence/display/hypcomm/FileServer+Directory+service

Notice there is a Permissions metric, but it is not enabled by default.

To set one up, navigate to your platform, open the Tools Menu, select New Platform Service and create a Fileserver Directory service. Configure it with the path to your directory, enable collection on the Permissions metric and you're ready to set up your alerts.
