Group Alerts

Hi,
I'm adding in clusters of servers to Hyperic that will have the same build, applications and therefore the same alerts. Is there any way to add a group of servers, define the alerts for one, and propagate those alerts to all the others in that group?

Thanks,
Joan

Hi Joan,

There is currently no group alerting feature. This is clearly very
useful and has been asked for by a number of different people. Our
next major release will be focused on enhancing our alerting features
and will incorporate a lot of the feedback that we have received from
the community. We will publish the roadmap as soon as we have
finalized it, but I think it's safe to say that there will probably
be something for group alerting.

Currently in the HQ Enterprise Subscription, we offer a feature
(though not exactly group alerting) that allows you to define alerts
based on resource types. And any creations of or modifications to
those alert definitions are automatically propagated to all resources
of that type.

Hi Charles,
Thanks for that. One question about the resource alerts - if I set up some alerts for say, Windows boxes, that cover apects X and Y. Then I set up an alert on an individual alert for aspect Z on a single Windows box. What will overwrite this alert? Will it be the editing of Resource alerts for X and Y or setting up a Resource alert for aspect Z?

Regards,
Joan

Hi Joan,

When you set up alert definitions for resource types, those
definitions are denoted as such. When you view the alert definitions
list for a particular resource, you will see that those inherited
from the resource type are marked with an asterisk. You can go ahead
and add alert definitions for that specific resource without being
impacted by any changes made to resource type alerts, or you can
modify an inherited resource type alert. However, if you were to
change a resource type alert in the future, it will overwrite any
changes you have made to a given resource's inherited one.

For more detailed information, please go to http://support.hyperic.com/confluence/display/DOCSHQ27/Resource+Type+Alerts.

I couldn't find an existing issue that covered this, so I created one:

http://jira.hyperic.com/browse/HHQ-177

for anyone to comment on and/or vote on.

There is a work around if this is applicable in your case see:
