Global alerts

Is there any way to set global alerts? For example, an availability alert for all platforms or all disk drives?

As it is stands, it appears I need to create alerts for each condition on every platform, server, and service. This means, for example, if I have 8 servers with 2 disks each, and I want to be alerted to both availability and usage conditions, that I'm going to need to create 32 different alerts just for disk drives. This approach seems extremely tedious... am I missing something? Is there a better way to handle these kinds of situations?

I'm using HQ 4.1 Open Source.

Global alert definition is an HQ Enterprise feature and is known as
Resource-Type Alerts: http://support.hyperic.com/display/DOC/Resource-Type+Alerts

Ok, thanks... was wondering if that might be the case. So, just to be clear... am I correct in assuming that the only way to accomplish this in the OS version is one by one?

Hi,

I use the Admin Helper: http://support.hyperic.com/display/hypcomm/HQU+Admin+Helper

You setup one alert definition and then clone it. It is not exactly like global alert template, but an excellent way to setup a bunch of alerts.

Mirko, thanks for pointing me to this incredibly useful plugin. I wish I had found this sooner!

For those who may find this thread, one point of confusion for me was the installation of this plugin. This is an HQU plugin which are apparently installed differently than shown in the "plugin" documentation. So, to install this I did the following:

1. download Admin Helper
2. unzip
3. set owner and group to "hyperic"
4. move the entire folder to "../server-current/hq-engine/server/default/deploy/hq.ear/hq.war/hqu"
