Availability changes for platform but not other services effected

Hi,
I am evaluating Hyperic, and I set up a server with the agent installed, with a bunch of servers configured like apache, tomcat, ntpd, sshd.

I configured alerts for these, and I got an alter triggered which indicated that the platform was un-available. Ive pasted the content of the alter at the bottom. however my question, is what does this represent, as I can see the server was not rebooted, there were no other services outages? Is Availability that the server could not be pinged, or the agent lost contact with the server?

Thanks,

T

The asweb02 platform has generated the following alert -

If Condition: Availability value changed (Not Available, new value = 0.0%)

------------------------------------------

ALERT DETAIL
- Resource Name: asweb02
- Resource Description: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
- Alert Name: General Alert
- Condition Set:
If Condition: Availability value changed (Not Available, new value = 0.0%)
- Alert Severity: !! - Medium

Tom,

There could be several issues at work here.

If the time is not synchronized on the machine hosting your agent and
the HQ server, you may see false alerts on availability.

For instance, if the agent is reporting 5 minutes in the past, then
the server will believe that it has been down for 5 minutes, thus
filling in the availability as 0 (and thus generating alerts).

Since you are monitoring platform availability here, the agent only
needs to be able to contact the server to report that the platform
was available.

Verify your times and let us know. We typically recommend our users
run NTP.
