"retrieving data" indefinitely in the vCM console

When I try to display the "templates" folder, under the "Virtual Environment Comliance" folder, under the "compliance" section of the vCM console, it does not display the templates.  The status bar on the bottom says "retrieving data" indefinitely.  Has anyone seen this before?

Most of the other folders don't display either.

This is normally due to having uncleanly shut down a client system. Bad data gets cached in an XML file used for tracking user filters on nodes.

A work-around is to connect to VCM using a different URL (e.g. IP Address instead of machine name, or FQDN instead of short name). This works because the data cached by IE is associated with the URL.

In many cases, this can be fixed by deleting cached user data. To do this, exit all instances of Internet Explorer, then delete either the whole UserData folder, or the four randomly named subfolders under it. (C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UserData). Note that most of this path is System and Hidden, so you'll need to change attributes or Explorer display setttings, and be running "As Admin", in order to see and delete the folders.

A more extreme fix is to delete the affected user's profile (Computer Properties\Advanced System Settings\User Profiles\Settings...). Deleting the profile deletes the cached IE data (as well as a lot of other things, like desktop customizations, etc).
