Variable cost fr Computing resources

Hello,

Is there a way to apply variable charge for computing resources depending on its quantity? For example up to 100GB storage we have different rates than 100+ GB. We want to sell cheaper if user buys more.

Thanks,

Savita

Hi Savita,

I believe you can use the 'overage' flag while setting the base rates in a cost model along with setting allocations on the entity. It will allow setting different base rates, for usage less than allocation and for usage more than allocation. Thus, if the base rates are set as 2USD/GB upto allocation units, and 1USD/GB beyond allocation, and if the allocation is set to 100GB, the cost for a custoemr buying 80GB will come out to be 2*80=160USD while the cost for a custoemr buying 120GB will come out to be 2*100 + 1*20 = 220USD.

In VCD CBM integrated environment, this solution might not be possible for all computing resources, as allocations are directly set by VCD in CBM and should not be changed manually.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hello Piyush,

Yes, we are using VCD CBM integrated environment.

And anyways overage concept doesn’t seem to be applicable here because even if user is within its allocation limit, we still want to charge differently on the bases of resource units purchased. I even thought of applying Cost Template but even that doesn’t seem to be a right solution.

Thanks,
