Chargeback instance model

When I configure the "VM Instance Costs" matrix and run some reports against the billing model that it is attached to it seems that the charge, defined as a monthly cost, is applied to the VMs each time a VM is powered up (not reset, but powered off and on).

For instance, I run a report limited to today on a single VM, then power down the VM, power it on and run the same report again, I see the monthly charge applied to the VM at the time of power on. Repeat the power cycle and rerun and it jumps again.

This is not what I would expect. I would expect a monthly charge to be applied once only and not applied again until a month has passed.

Any comments/experiences/suggestions on implementing the instance matrix are welcome.

Hi,

Well unfortunately this is how vCenter ChargeBack VM Instance Matrix work by design. It is not prorated and will charge the full fee on each power on.

I hope this will change or more options at least a prorate option will be available in the future. For more details I have crafted a post about this issue, which you can find it at: VMware vCenter Chargeback VM instance model is overcharging

I hope this help,
