I worked in the jewelry packaging industry for 26 years. I operated my own jewelry packaging business, Dana Manufacturing Incorporated, for 12 years in the Providence RI area. In the late 90's all of the jewelry production was moving overseas. All of the small businesses were not able to compete with the pricing of foreign goods. I sold my business to a customer in the Providence area in 1996. While I had my business I setup a small network with Windows 3.11 and Lantastic which later became Novell. I enjoyed working with the computers and configuring my network. With the network, I was able to run accounting software and Access 2.0. So I thought that the computer field would be a good industry to get into right now. I looked into getting some training. I found that Boston University had corporate education centers around the Boston area that offered computer training classes. I signed up for the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer's class which at that time was Windows NT 4.0 OS. I started in January of 1997. I finished up the courses in June of 1997 but I didn't get my MCSE until October 1997 when I finally passed the SQL Server 7.0 exam. I went to work for CVS Corporation from June of 1997 until October of 1997. In November of 1997 I went to work for Boston University Corporate Education Centers. I first worked in Foxboro MA where they had class rooms at the Foxboro Company. From there I moved to Post Office Square in Boston and then out near the university campus on Mass Ave. I worked at multiple workstation and server downloads, setups and configurations of the class rooms. Most of the time it was WinNT Server and Workstation. Other times we setup SCO Unix servers or programming software on Win95 or Workstation. The classroom configurations were mostly for MCSE training. I left Boston University in January of 2000 and moved to Long Island NY. My wife was already living and working for a corporation on Long Island. We had purchased a house in October of 1999 and we finished the move by February of 2000 when we sold our house in MA. I worked in Brooklyn, NY for awhile for another computer training company. They closed in 2001 because of the collapse of the computer market especially the web companies. It took me about 7 months to get another job in the computer field. I managed to find a job with the Town of Huntington on Long Island in 2002. I am still working with the town and enjoying all of the new growth we are experiencing.
