I do apologize for the “OMG”. It was a poor attempt at humor and not directed at you personally. I should have chosen my words better.
And I do agree you have a very valid question and point. Sometimes developers (and organizations) take a “if it ain’t broke, dont fix it” mentality. But “don’t fix it” does lead to development “inertia” where things that should be revisited for improvements aren’t. That includes monitoring open source components for improvements and proactively including them instead of waiting for the exploits to roll in and then patch them (although that still needs to be done as well).
