if you ask how to "install vmware tools" button works ....
1. while the guest is running the CD device that is connected at the moment is disconnected
2. ESXi assigns the vmware-tools iso file to the guest
3. in case autorun in not disabled inside the guest the vmware-tools installer gets auto started
4. installation of vmware-tools
5. when finished with success the vmware-tools send a signal to the ESXi to disconnect the vmware-tools iso
6. ESXi reconnects the CD device that was previously used
