Greetings to all the colleagues of the forum. My question to the community is the following: I have a created machine (Thin hard drive) whose "provisioned storage" is 700 GB. The "Used storage" is 740.96 GB. On the other hand, if I look from within the S.O. installed, in this case Windows2019server, the disk is 700 GB and there is 72 GB of free space. How is it possible that there is more space in "Used storage" than in "provisioned storage" and instead we have 10% of the OS disk free, on the Windows virtual machine ? I attach screenshots. Thanks for your response in advance.

I'm an Aria / vROps newbie and have an instance of Aria 8.12.1 (21952151) enterprise with the VMware Horizon Management Pack. We did some performance tests and I'm now working on reporting the outcomes. While I was on holiday last week the clocks here in the UK went forward by one hour, bringing the UK back into step with UTC. Now when I configure one of my Dashboards to the time of one of the tests we performed there is no data, if I change the Dashboard time to 1 hour earlier the data is available. Tests performed this week aren't affected. Is there an easy way to fix this so that I don't have to change the Dashboard times to adjust for the time change please? It looks the NTP server is configured...   The VM is configured to sync using VMware Tools... Preferences look like this...   Thanks in advance, Greg

This is the command I am trying to Execute   New-VM -Name TEST01 -Template $Template -Datastore $Datastore -Location $Folder -ResourcePool $VSCluster   Each of the variables refer to an object of the appropriate type. This is the error message I am receiving:   | 2023-11-08 06:57:48 New-VM One or more errors occurred. (com.vmware.vapi.std.errors.internal_server_error {'messages': [com.vmware.vapi.std.localizable_message {'id': | vapi.bindings.method.impl.unexpected, 'default_message': Provider method implementation threw unexpected exception: com.vmware.vapi.std.errors.InternalServerError, 'args': | [com.vmware.vapi.std.errors.InternalServerError], 'params': , 'localized':}, com.vmware.vapi.std.localizable_message {'id': com.vmware.vapi.endpoint.badGateway, 'default_message': The | endpoint, while acting as a gateway, received an invalid response from an upstream server it accessed while attempting to fulfill the request., 'args': [], 'params': , 'localized':}], | 'data': , 'error_type': INTERNAL_SERVER_ERROR})   It does not always occur; sometimes - even most of the time - it goes through fine. And even when the error does occur, the VM is created correctly: I can see the task starting and completing in the task log and the VM does start without issue afterwards if I manually boot it. So the error appears after the VM is created but before the process is complete. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this behavior? How can I go about troubleshooting it? The inconsistent nature and my own admittedly lacking knowledge of vsphere internals are haunting me, at the moment.    VMware.PowerCLI: 13.1.0.21624340 vSphere: 7.0.3.01700

I have a ESXi(192.168.0.11) not responding from vCenter(192.168.0.2), but guest vm worked fine. Try vCenter reconnected ESXi......failed, so I login DCUI and Test Management Network and type in vCenter ip, it shows "OK".  But when I change to Shell mode and ping vCenter ip, it failed.  (( I don't understand how difference between these operation, they both ping same ip, didn't they? ))  I try ping gateway(192.168.0.253) and Google DNS(8.8.8.8), it got response.  I have login vCenter via SSH and ping ESXi, it works.  I have restart hostd, vpxa and management network then reconnect from vCenter, but still failed.  Could anyone help me?

Hello all, I like to use a 10G NIC adapter for both the ESXi host and VDS concurrently. When I switch on the adapter on the host it will be gone on this host in VDS. When I try to get the NIC in VDS back, it works fine but the host lost these. Is it possible to use an NIC adapter for both at all?

I have some questions about VPU on the VM guest such as : If we need VM with 8 cores, it's better to assign '2 cores with 4 sockets' or '8 core with 1 socket'? Which option will get best performance of both configuration? If we have application based on sockets count, when i choose  2 cores with 4 socket this mean i need only 4 license and if i select 8 core with 1 sockets this mean i only need 1 license? ON the baremetal server we can see there are L3 cache on the CPU, but on every VM why we can't see the L3 cache?

The reason why this question emerge is due to a scenario: if using scripted ESXi installation on a new server that requires specifying a new disk for installation, then the administrator will need to know the identifier/name beforehand so that the script-writing can be completed. In order to obtain that disk's identifier/name, using an ESXi installer or existing ESXi server seemed to be a requirement. Any ideas?

Hi guys, I want to replace my datastore names in vROPS. My company is a private cloud and give a service to subordinate companies and I must give them billing report. In report I want to define disk type based on datastore names for example datastores that name of them contain vSAN shows disk type SSD and if names contain 10k shows HDD to my customer's VM in vROPS report. I think I can assign custom attribute to my VMs but there's a problem, if I migrate vm from vSAN datastore to 10K datastore custom attribute of VM is not changed. I don't know is it possible to do it by using Supermetric or other features of vROPS so I decided to ask my question here. I will appreciate if you help me to do that. Best Regards.

I'm very sorry for this basic question and I MUST be missing something obvious. I cannot get a terminating error located within a Try..Catch to be ignored and for processing to continue.   $ErrorActionPreference = "Ignore" Try { Write-Host "Try this...." Get-Item -Location "C:\Temp" -ErrorAction Ignore Write-Host "Error ignored" } Catch { Write-Host "Try-Catch activated" } Finally { Write-Host "Finally activated" }   Basically I want the terminating error "Get-Item -Location "C:\Temp" -ErrorAction Ignore" to be ignored and processing to continue. In my testing, the Catch block is always processed. I am new to vmware. I am installing this on my Windows 10 Pro desktop, not a server. I am trying to install the vSphere Client to setup a Storage Gateway in AWS. I downloaded the VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi ISO) image and created a bootable USB. When booting from the USB I selected the ESXi-7.OU3n-21930508-standard Installer. It installs VMware ESXi 7.0.3, but when it comes to the end a modal pops up stating "No Network Adapters were detected. Either no network adapters are physically connected to the system, or a suitable driver could not be located. A third party driver may be required. Ensure that there is at least one network adapter physically connected to the system before attempting installation." My only option is to cancel the installation at this point. What steps can I take to resolve this issue? I have not installed any other vmware up to this point. Thanks in advance

I'm looking for VMware 8 documentation that gives examples of Mongo being deployed in a VM and in a container via Tanzu.  I've not found much published in the last few months or so.  Any VMware technotes, weblinks or youtube videos would be much appreciated. Also what are the benefits versus disadvantages of MongDB in a VM versus a container? My apologies if I've cross posted to the wrong group. TIA
does anyone know where the instructions are on how to install ESXI on a new pc.

Hi VMware community, I'm building a setup of  VMware with  NVMe-oF and RoCE configuration for a customer, and I'm having some issues. I'm validating the configuration with Ubuntu 20.04 VMs, using PVRDMA or SR-IOV network adapters. I'm testing the VM performance using vdbench, and I'm not having any problems with 4k and 8k blocksizes. However, I'm starting to see packet loss for packet sizes over 8k. The I/O drop to zero for 3-4 seconds, then come back up, in intervals. Here are the details of my setup: VCenter version: 7.0.3 ESXi version: VMware ESXi, 7.0.3, 20842708 Server: Proliant DL 385 g10 NIC: Mellanox ConnectX-5 25Gb/s vdbench version: 50407 Storage: Huawei OceanStor Here is my vdbench configuration: host definition hd=default,vdbench=/home/adminctio/vdbench50407,user=root,shell=ssh hd=hd1,system=localhost test volume definition -- Single volume example - use higher thread count per volume for a low number of test volumes sd=default,openflags=o_direct sd=sd1,host=localhost,lun=/dev/nvme0n1 sd=sd2,host=localhost,lun=/dev/nvme0n2 sd=sd3,host=localhost,lun=/dev/nvme0n3 sd=sd4,host=localhost,lun=/dev/nvme0n4 test workload definition wd=wd1,sd=sd*,seekpct=100,rdpct=70,xfersize=32k test application run parameters rd=run1,wd=wd*,iorate=max,elapsed=60,interval=1,warmup=30,pause=60,threads=8   I think this might be a write cache issue. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? Have you configured vdbench with additional parameters to avoid filling the cache? Thanks for any help. J.

Hello all. I just upgraded my single ESXi server to v8 and my guests cannot talk to each other. Also, from another computer on the same network, I cannot get to the port 443 web console for one of my VMs. I've got a single NIC. Here are a few screenshots of my configuration. Thanks. In looking at these closely, I'm wondering of vmk0 is my problem but I'm not sure how to fix it.
