Using the nvidia control panel, I switched to performance mode and validated I was in a higher clock state for both the gpu and its memory.  It had no effect inside the virtual machine. Goldeneye_007 - I'm not sure if you caught some of the earlier discussion - if you turn off GPU acceleration, then there's no lag in the GUI.  It appears to be specific to running with the "Accelerate 3d graphics" option on.  I do agree with you that it's related to the 3d accelerated code path in the vmware svga driver.  I'm guessing it's interrupt related.  (I think someone else suggested that earlier in the discussion.)

The typing lag appears to be everywhere when running the GUI as long as there's not too much happening in the background.  For example, I see the problem on the login screen when typing my username and password.  I see the problem in the terminal and in a text editor. When testing CentOS7 host and guest, I used Gnome. When testing Ubuntu, I used Mate for all versions. No lag if you ssh into the box.  No lag if you drop out of X and go local console. BTW, if you login, open a terminal, and run glxgears, the lag is gone.  If you stop glxgears, the lag is back.

Since I like Vmware player a lot, I decided to do some testing with the latest Technology Preview version of Workstation/Player.  I happen to have a spare PC right now, so I did the following tests: I did a clean install of the following operating systems for the HOST: CentOS 7 Ubuntu 18.04 Ubuntu 22.04 And tried the following Guest Operating Systems: CentOS 7 Ubuntu 18.04 Ubuntu 22.04 In all combinations, the slow typing problem was observed.

I've re-read through the posts about this issue today and decided to test the latest 16.2.3 release.  The issue persists.  This time I tested two different systems (both linux) : 1 - My desktop with AMD CPU and Nvidia 1070ti. 2- My laptop with Intel CPU and Intel Video. On both systems, the issue is present - (putting to rest the thought that it's GPU drivers on the host machine.)  To reproduce, create a new virtual machine, enable accelerate 3d graphics, and do a fresh install of 20.04.  Open a terminal or a text editor and you'll see it right away. If you open a terminal and run glxgears the issue totally goes away as long as it runs.  It appears that keeping the display busy prevents the issue from happening.  Some people have reported doing odd things (voodoo) that can make the issue go away (at least for awhile.)  I believe the busyness of the system has a lot to do with it.

I also have this problem with 16.2.0 and 16.2.1.  I can verify that turning off 3d acceleration works around the problem.  But I don't think Vulkan is directly responsible for the issue.  I have an Nvidia Pascal generation video card (1070ti) which is not supported by VMware's Vulkan Translation, but instead, uses the old OpenGL code path. I've re-installed 16.1.x for now and hope they get around to fixing this one for the next version.

I installed the latest Player 14 on a windows 10 machine.  Everything looked fine.  After a while, mouse clicks stopped working in the VM.  Mouse would move and keyboard was still functioning.  Later on, mouse clicks worked again.  I uninstalled and went back to 12.5.x.  Everything worked fine. Last week, I built a new computer with a fresh copy of windows 10.  Installed Player 14 again.  Same thing happened after some time.  Again, went back to 12.5.x and mouse works all the time.  This happens with Windows 10 and Ubuntu virtual machines. Has anyone else ran into this and found a solution? Thanks!

I did a further experiment with machine 2: Using nested virtualization, installed centos 7, installed vmware workstaton 12, then a centos 7 inside worstation.  Same network problem. Then, using nested virtualization, installed ubunti 14.04, installed workstation 12, then ran the same centos 7 I created above.  No network problem. So in summary, the centos 7 network slowness problem can be reproduced without bare metal machines, completely eliminating hardware setup as the root cause. I solved the problem with machine 2 by replacing the centos 7 install with ubuntu 14.04.  Network works fine now.  My only conclusion is that it's either a bug in centos 7 or vmware workstation/player. I'm experiencing slow network connectivity between my CentOS 7 host and its vmware workstation player 12 guests, slowness in both directions.  I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this and figured out what to do. Symptoms: 1) ssh in either direction, I intermittently observe pauses of 1 to many seconds between keystrokes. 2) munin has a hard time collecting data between the guest and the host - leaving gaps in graphs. What works perfectly: Host to the rest of the world.  Guests to the rest of the world.  World to the host.  World to the guests.  Guests to Guests all work as expected. I've verified the issue on two machines, both running the latest CentOS 7.1 distribution.  System configurations: Machine 1: (At Work) Dell Workstation - Sandy Bridge 6 core, 96 GB of ram. Tested Host CentOS 7.1 to windows 7 guest (with cygwin) via ssh. Player 7.1.2 Machine 2: (At Home) Asus MB with AMD A5700, 4 core, 32 gb of ram. Tested Host CentOS 7.1 to Centos 6.7 guest and Centos 7.1 Guest. Workstation Player 12 Tested all three network configurations (bridged, nat, host only) with the same result. With Machine 2, had previously windows 8.1 with Workstation Player 12.  All networking worked as expected. I've seen several articles on the web concerning adjusting TCP segmentation offload and other nic features.  The ones I read really didn't match my issue, those described no connectivity between host and guests, but I tried the adjustments anyway, but they didn't help. Thanks, John
