Are you using VMware Cloud on AWS?

Greetings, Like the title says, we're having issues vMotioning VM's from one host to another. The very strange part of this is that we can vMotion from Host-1 to Host-2 instantly while the VM is running, but if we vMotion from Host-2 to Host-1, it will start at 20%, then take about 30 minutes for 1% of progress, when it hits around 70% it will die. I have this log from the events: "Failed waiting for data. Error 195887167. Connection closed by remote host, possibly due to timeout. 2023-01-12T02:34:20.356701Z The migration was canceled because the amount of changing memory for the virtual machine was greater than the available network bandwidth. Attempt the migration again when the virtual machine is not as busy or more network bandwidth is available. 2023-01-12T02:34:20.70838Z vMotion migration [167772298:4986640234740089536] failed to read stream keepalive: Connection closed by remote host, possibly due to timeout". I have NOT rebooted the Host-2 because it's running two very important VM's that should always be online 24/7. I have double-checked all of our networking configuration, physical as well.

Hello members,  I have a question about HCX and NAS, Can someone please advise If a customer has onprem netapp (NAS datastore attached to esxi) and VMs running on it, and they want to migrate to VMC and use FSX-N at destination, what would be the migration methodology. a. Create a FSX-N DS and mount to the sddc cluster and then use HCX to migrate to FSX-N DS, HCX would migrate/replicate NAS DS to FSX-N DS?  b. they should use snap mirror to replicate the storage to a fsx-n volume Do we have any other options, and when do customer choose the above options?

we are looking at joining our existing infrastructure with vcdr and vmc on aws.  the question that has my org stumped is the routing for the vpn / connection and it goes like this:  if we expose a subnet to the vpn and vmc on aws, lets say 192.168.10.0/24 and have 6 vm's on that subnet, can 3 be powered on and function on prem and can 3 vm's be powered on and functioning on vmc on AWS at the same time?    a second way of asking this question is  does the can you split a subnet,  lets say 192.168.10.0/24,  where half the subnet can live in AWS and the other half live on prem, as well as the gateway for the subnet, live on prem, without extending the on prem network into AWS?
I'm not sure if you are allowed to do that. Why not check with VMware support team through the chat support?

Can you provide more information on how these hosts are configured. Are all 8 hots under the same vCenter currently?  At a high level, if you are looking at separating them out into two different clusters under their own vCenters, You will have to remove one of the host, then install a new vCenter on it and then add it the host that hosts the vCenter into it. Then you disconnect the other three from the existing vCenter and move them under thew new one.
Have you looked at this: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/mwaa/latest/userguide/connections-secrets-manager.html
How can I enable and integrate aws secret manager in Apache Airflow?

I got this figured out.  (this all assumes you're already authenticated) aws backup-gateway list-hypervisors (and get the ARN of the hypervisor where your VM resides) Copy the value from the K/V pair of ResourceArn, with the quotes. Then: aws backup-gateway list-virtual-machines --hypervisor-arn "arn:aws:backup-gateway:us-west-2:987654321098:hypervisor/hype-12345678" (these are obviously bogus numbers, but you get the idea) And then you will see the ResourceArn values for your VMs in the results! Thank you AWS Support. They were the ones that helped me with this. I figured it would be VMware I'd need to contact first.
I'm exploring the AVS but we don't get trail with Azure we need a enterprise subscription for that I believe
Exactly like the title says. How do I get the AWS ARN (Amazon Resource Name) for the VMs that reside in VMC? Thanks.

I always try to have a test environment with beta version of upcoming version of windows and windows server. With the release of Windows 11 and it's design change one could assume that they would also move it over to there beta versions of windows server. Just wondering if people have had thoughts on this. securitasepay
Try to migrate through veeam backup and replication or starwind migration

If you are restoring the VMware or Azure virtual machine from backups, you can recover your VM using it as an Amazon instance. This feature allows you to transfer virtual machines to the AWS cloud. AWS cloud. If you're employing the Import method, if you execute an entire instance restore operation on AWS and transform the VM into an AWS instance or replicate the VM to AWS through this Import technique, Commvault creates an S3 bucket for the destination automatically. The bucket is named gx-restore-region_name-account_id, where region_name is the name of the AWS region and account_id is the AWS account for the virtualization client. You can carry out VM conversions by streaming backups, secondary copies, or IntelliSnap backups. You can't convert using an IntelliSnap Snap copy. Reminder: Converting Azure VMs encrypted with Azure Disk Encryption is not supported. Before You Begin On any VM you wish to transfer to one of the Amazon EC2 instances, you could require 2 GB of disk space on the OS disk to install drivers and other software. If you are you are ready to restore the Azure virtual machine, you must do these things: To use Windows computers: turn on your pagefile to be located on the C drive of the original VM. This will help you avoid receiving an error message if you start your destination VM. For Linux computers: Make sure that the fstab entries of the source disk must be determined by the UUID of the disk rather than the disk's name. If it's not based on the disk UUID, then the re-created VM won't boot. You can use any access node to carry out the conversion, whether operating in an Amazon instance or externally, using access to your Amazon account. Use one or both of these methods. Utilizing a cloud access server gives more excellent performance. With an access node in an Amazon instance, it is possible to directly write into Elastic Block Storage (EBS) and inject Amazon drivers required to run destination instances. You need the acess to provide the login credentials of your guest VM. The restoration is done through HotAdd. Hot add method. It is necessary to set up Xen driver in Linux guest VMs before making a backup of the VM, which serves as the basis to convert or replicate. Installation of Xen driver on Linux guest VMs will allow the drivers to be present when the Amazon instance is created to ensure it is possible for the Amazon instance to be launched and users have access to it. Utilizing an external access point eliminates the costs of running one Amazon instance. The restore operation uses the import method and the gx-restore-region_name-account_id bucket. The access node's computer must be capable of connecting to ec2.amazonaws.com. To send messages via an HTTP or HTTPS proxy, check out how to configure a firewall for the Access Node within the Cloud. To use an HTTPS proxy, you must provide authentication details. Make backups of the virtual machine on which you are planning to convert.

Hello there I was wondering if anyone has issues using Converter in their SDDC.  I have started getting errors about permissions to create VM. I have CloudAdmin rights so that is not the issue. Attached is the error. I know Converter is EOL but this worked fine until recently. Version I am using is 6.2, and firewall rules are in place.  Has anyone come across this before? Or does anyone have another Tool I could use to resize Disks, convert Workstation images to vSphere VMs etc? Thanks
Hello Experts, Just wanted to check for L2 Stretched Network for AVS, do we have any alternative or workarounds if HCX NE is not possible?   Regards PK

"You can export previously imported EC2 instances using the Amazon EC2 API tools. You simply specify the target instance, virtual machine file format and a destination S3 bucket, and VM Import/Export will automatically export the instance to the S3 bucket. You can then download and launch the exported VM within your on-premises virtualization infrastructure" After fighting this for a few hours I find the word "simply" to be offensive.   AWS is not making this simple at all. While the command itself might be straightforward I have been plagued with access denied and objects not existing try commands to convert to VDMK from S3 or from EC2 AMI and have had to open a ticket.

Hello, I have a system with 2 HPE EL8000's containing 4 blades each and they are also connected to two network switches. I plan on splitting the system up so I have 2 systems with one EL8000 and 4 blades. Does anyone know the steps I need to take to properly shut down vsphere and split the hardware to end up with 2 systems that are exact replicas of the original combined system?
