"Should work" I meant if we have 3 Vlans with ip interfaces on them and L3 cisco with ip routing 'on' they should 'see' each other no problem. I had Vlan20 trunked outside of the cage solely for testing purposes - to find WHY the blasted Vlan1 is not working properly. I have multi-nic vMotion with 4 vmk in VLan20, once I remove this vlan from trunk ports this traffic will not leave the bladecage. Thank you for your help!

I found why it was not working as it should on a Cisco forum - someone had the exact same problem. And the issue is: the default GW for the PCs or VMs in Vlan1 must be the ip of the cisco router that does all Vlan routing (in my case 192.168.255.250). After setting the correct GW everything begin to work as intended. Thank you Kinnison! Your initial assumption about incorrect network settings was somewhat right.

VLAN 20 is for vMotion traffic, does not leave the blade cage.  Here are all the vlans in cisco: Both the vCenter VM and ESXi ping traffic does not leave the blade cage, everything is up to cisco this ESXi is plugged into. My guess is that it is somehow connected with "Native VLAN". Ping between Vlan10 <<->> Vlan20 work fine. But ping between Vlan1 and Vlan10 only works from Vlan1=>>vLan10. No complicated settings involved, and it 'should' work, but it does not.

Even impolite guessing is totally OK, I'm stuck and really need to fix this. Network settings are probably fine, because they are as simple as possible. No ACL involved, also no firewall. I can ping GW and VMs in VLAN 20 no problem (gw for VLAN20 192.168.120.254) and vice versa. I can also ping 2 mikrotik routers in VLAN1 but nothing else, PCs and VMs are not responding. Maybe there is a way to remove the vlan tag from the packets if the destination is in Vlan 1? Not sure how to do it.

Hello! I have an ESXi host with dvSwitch and two dvPortGroups: 1. Prod (VLAN type set to "none"). 192.168.255.0/24 2. VLAN10 (VLAN type set to VLAN 10). 192.168.100.0/24 vmk0 Management of the ESXi is connected to VLAN10. (IP 192.168.100.3) vCenter is connected to Prod (no VLAN). (IP 192.168.255.199) Everything is connected to L3 Cisco stacked switch with VLAN1 (int 192.168.255.250) and VLAN10 (int 192.168.100.254). I can perfecly ping the ESXi from vcenter (no VLAN 192.168.255.199 ->> VLAN10 192.168.100.3) or any PC - it works just fine. But when I'm trying to ping the vCenter from an ESXi (VLAN10 192.168.100.3 ->> no vlan 192.168.255.199) - it is not working. In fact I can't ping anything, but my VLAN10 cisco GW, so I can ping 192.168.100.254 and nothing else. Can you please advice why this is happening and how to fix it? I really need to be able to ping everyting from VLAN10->> no vlan. BIG thanks in advance!

Well, I guess any packet with SRC MAC address coming from my LAN back to Cisco can cause this flapping. Lets suppose, that deep down in the network there is a hub, or something bad happening and packet with SRC MAC of the VM comes back. This way, all I have to do is to filter all packets with VM MAC coming from LAN ports. I will check this once I have the hardware to do it. Still, the flapping stops if no etherchannel is configured between Cisco and Mikrotik, this is strange bc packets can come back in this only working port, but it never happened and flapping only occurs if etherchannel is active.

Hello!  I really need help with troubleshooting an error message on my cisco: %SW_MATM-4-MACFLAP_NOTIF: Host 0050.56a9.6656 in vlan 1 is flapping between port Gi1/0/1 and port Po1  I have an ESXi host with 4 NICs, each NIC connected to a Cisco switch (Bl 3120X), and all the switches are stacked. So, uplinks 1,2,3,4 are looking into Gi1/0/1, Gi2/0/1, Gi3/0/1 and Gi4/0/1. Then, I have Link Aggregation to clients on this switch, ports Te1/0/1 and Te3/0/1 forms a Port-channel Po1. (no matter static or LACP it acts the same, regarding to the error). This Po1 is connected to Mikrotik326-24. The ONLY thing that helps to get rid of that flapping error is to remove both Te ports from Port-channel, this way STP blocking one port and flapping stops. What exact packets ESXi is using to "advertise" the MAC of a VM on a port? I assume that I'm having a bug, when this packet is recieved by Mikrotik on one port and it is then sending it back into another port of Po1, this way the packet get back to Cisco and flapping occurs. But this should not be happening, because these ports should act like one, they are aggregated together, apparently this is not working correctly. Can you please shed a light on this? What packets should I look for? Maybe if I drop them on Mikrotik ports of Po1 it will stop sending them back. Thank you! P.S. I read and tried everyting I could find about port flapping, including isolating vmk mgmt interface in another VLAN, it doesn't help.

Hello! I'm currently having the following configuration and getting a little confused: We have an ESXi host with 6 pNICs. All of them assigned as uplinks in vDS with a VM Portgroup with "Route based on physical NIC load" and all 6 Active uplinks. All 6 pNICs are connected to a single Physical Switch (pSwitch1). This switch is connected to the second Physical Switch (pSwitch2) with LACP using two 10GE ports. Several workstations are connected to pSwitch2 and they use some VMs on the ESXi. Is this configuration supported at all? Currently traffic from the workstations must pass thru LACP to reach VMs on the ESXi. It 'does' work but can this configuration cause troubles? No LAGs is configured, "IP Hash" is not selected on the portgroup and ESXi basically doesn't know about the existing LACP between switches at all. LACP was made to utilize both links otherwise blocked by STP.
Did you apply a licenses to your hosts? You need an Enterprise Plus license for the Host Profiles to work.

Wow, this issue is here for some time now, yeah. All the way from 23.03.2015 to Dec 2018! Just ... wow. My solution to this back then was simple - we rolledback and lived on 5.5 and it was great, primarily because of the C# vSphere Client. Nowadays solution - we moved to ESXi 6.7 with VCSA 6.7. Todays VCSA is a resource monster too - it always says "Need more memory" and its daily CPU chart looks like this: In my opinion, however, it works more predictable and surely leaves a better feeling overall. (this does not include the installation process ) The only BIG dissapointment is the complete lack of the fast and bug free C# vSphere Client. P.S. (why all of this happens) - "Dad, what was the worst thing you know from your life?" - "Three billion devices run Java."

I've had this problem, from my experience you'll need 3 to 5 attempts for it to install, just make a snapshot before installation and revert to it every time the install fails. 1. VERY IMPORTANT - a FQDN DNS name must be made for vcenter server, and it must work before the installation even begins. Your PDC better be up and running too. 2. When you name your 'vSphere' do not use 'local' at the end. For example, your default name should be "administrator@yourcompanyname.com", not "yourcompany.local". For some reason latest vCenters did not like "local". I hope this helps.

Ok, I found an answer myself, this time it was easy enough. After logging into VCSA Management in search for logs I eventually found that time in VCSA is completely "stuck". Time synchronization mode was set to "Host" and it was working good, until it completely stops for some unknown reason. After changing mode to "NTP" time begins to flow again, and now we have some noticeable gap in readings: So, it is probably best not to use the "host" sync mode for VCSA because strange things may happen. P.S. I checked the time on the host and it was fine. So, time stops going only for VCSA, but not for the host.

Hello! We are currently running VCSA 6.7.0.20000 to check if it works OK. For some time it was fine, until yesterday when VCSA suddenly stopped logging performance data. It looks like this: I can still login to both vSphere and Web client, so only part of VCSA failed. Is there a way to troubleshoot this? Rebooting VCSA will probably resolve this, but this is not a solution, because you have to manually check if it works and reboot it. Is there some VCSA logs to check why it stopped logging? P.S. VCSA was deployed as per vmware docs in 'minimal' configuration with 2 CPUs and 10Gb RAM.

I can't believe all this still happening in 2017! This is just... WOW. No words. This is all went wrong since the WebClient introduction and the following deprecation of fast and beautiful C# client. By the way, have you tried the all new HTML 5 "vSphere Client"? All I know is that it still can't do much.

I hope they start loosing big money real soon, as this is the only way for them to hear us and make thigs right. Only then they will finally understand that "something goes wrong" and start pulling back. Like MS, who finally accepted that their stupid, slow and resource hungry "tiles" are just not needed on desktop OS. It was years of agressive pushing this sh*t before they realize that it was wrong. Current state of affairs is just not acceptable. (flash, need of 2 clients, etc, etc). I think that decision to remove and abandon C# client is very wrong. (at least until they have fast and bug-free HTML5 client with ALL the features in one place). And yes, WebClient 6 is even WORSE than tht 5.5 (in my environment) - it even opens from time to time giving unbelievable errors like 403, freezing and lots of bugs just everywhere.

Everything is just normal now - plugins, CPU usage, strange "quick stats is not up to date" messages, even the WebClient is working normal again. I guess, we'll try once again in a year. Speaking of the CPU - here's the same VM on the same host. Just compare with the picture in the 1st post:

Hello! After upgrading to vCenter 6 "Health Status" information under "Configuration" tab disappeared in both vShere Client and WebClient. The only way to see it now is to connect directly to host using vSphere Client. Here's how it should look like: And here's how it looks now if you connect to vCenter: Is there a way to get this Health information back? Thanks!
