Under VMs running Suse 8.1 and 9.x i can see, that DHCP has assigned IP-adresses to a VM, e.g. 192.168.178.7 and a ping goes through. However, the IP adresses/DNS names do not appear in the VMs overview of vSphere client and a try for an online system update from yast to www.suse.com yields "cannot connect to www.suse.de. Check your connection" General setting: After the public IP there is on DHCP-Router in a 192.168.0.0 net, who gives my DCHP router an IP. My DHCP-router operates the 192.168.178.0 network. Desktops incl. VMs in the 192.168.178.0 network can browse the internet well, but the VMs from ESXi 4.0 in the same network do not get a connection (appart from ping). Are there any hints? Many thanks in advance... Yours Stressed VMWareUser

I have VMs with Suse 8.1 and 9.x as guest systems and try to install VMware Tools, when they are switched on. Only the minimal Linux system is installed After pressing the Install - button in the console - menu, vSphere Client indicates, that VMware-Tools was mounted sucessfully. What to do now, as installation seam to not continue? Where could the mount point for VMWare-Tools be, that I could try to start it manually? Many thanks for Your help in advance, Yours StressedVMUser

According to the logs (see attached line 28 ff) there seems to be a question with localhost.localdomain vs 192.168.0.17 (both from ESXi), which I do not understand. Both values were set up during installation automatically. In addition there seems to be a SSL topic. Best Regards, StressedVMUser

Thanks for your hint. When doing the remote P2V, the helper maschine received her IP and name very well, so I think it is nothing with the local physical infrastructure but rather something in Linux oder Vmware, that I do not see. Best Regards, Yours StressedVMUser

If have set up VM in Linux (eg. Suse 8.1, 9.1 and 9.3) on ESXi 3.5 and ESXi 4.0, but seem do not get IP-Adresses assigned from DHCP to the Vms itself (worked well for ESXi itself with e.g. 192.168.0.17). The VMs have networkadapters like E1000 or "Flexibel", both seem not to work. One step I want to try is a rsync between two VMs, and thereafter a rsync between a remote PM to a local VM. Is there any solution? Many thanks for help in advance ... Best regards, StressedVMUser

After Linux 9.3 P2V with 99% successful, converter could not reconfigure. I booted VM with linux rescue of 9.3, but ls or mount does not find my 4 successfully cloned volumes nor the files on it. The PM runs a software raid. What could I do? Best regards, StressedVMUser

Thanks a lot for the hint In the meantime I have organized the Boot CD and tried to follow your recommendation. Unfortuantely I am stopping at the point were Suse is trying to inititialize the hardware, so I do not even get to the point to enter linux orders. Do you have any hints from here on? Best Regards, StressedVMUser P.S: Is there any experts in P2V conversation, who could come here (Frankfurt/Main, Germany), could convert 3 Linux servers (see above) and set them up under ESXi and Workstation 6.5. Fee to be discussed on Phone: 0172-6913111

I am trying to P2V older Linux Suse 8.1 or 9.1 Servers (remote, hot-cloning) with Converter Standalone to ESXi 3.5. Everything seems to work, except a reconfiguaration at the very end of the process. This means, the VM will not boot. A later configuration with Converter does not work either, because the guest sytem is not supported. As the interface between the application and Linux Suse is very interdepedant (and I am no Linux expert), is there any way to get the VM booting/Working?
