Hi, it seems that you are right. In fact the installed Windows 10 is an MBR partition. I found this interesting article: https://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2017/10/tip-from-engineering-use-uefi-firmware-for-windows-10-server-2016.html I converted the installed VM per MBR2GPT tool to a GPT partition.# After powering off the VM I changed the setting from BIOS to EFI. Et voila - I could start this VM successfully!! So, thanks for your response, and I have learned something new today:-). Regards, Andre

Hi, I want to use a customized Windows 10 ISO Image (removed some default apps and re-configured basic settings) for a Windows 10 installation in a VM (HW version 15). I have to notice that I cannot boot from EFI with this modified ISO image. I can change this in the VM-setting to "BIOS" instead of EFI, and I can boot and install from this ISO image successfully. But when I try to change from BIOS to EFI after the OS installation, the already installed VM is not bootable. Trying to use an unmodified ISO image, I can boot a new VM with EFI successfully. What can I do to use the customized ISO image when I want to configure EFI in the VM configuration also? Why is it not possible to boot the installed VM with EFI, when this was installed with BIOS? Would be great to get some tips. Thanks and Best Regards, Andre

Hi, in the past with the "old" native VMware vSphere client I could schedule a task for a Storage VMotion procedure. Now I am using the vSphere Web Client, and cannot find any solution to schedule a task like this. Does anybody have an idea how I can do this? Maybe a script per remote cli, but I want to do this per GUI if available... Regards, Andre

Hi, since vSphere 6.7 a Per-VM EVC is configurable in conjunction with a EVC enabled cluster. That's a nice thing. But however, "virtual machine EVC baseline cannot be a newer feature set than the cluster EVC baseline" I see in the documentation. How does it make sense when the cluster EVC baseline have to be newer than the VM enabled EVC baseline? Did I understand this right? I thing especially that would be make sense, if the VM EVC baseline could be newer than the cluster based EVC baseline. So I can set e cluster based EVC, and for some specific VM a Per-VM EVC baseline, and these VMs can run on specific hosts only. Maybe somebody can clarify this for me. Cheers, Andre

Hi, I need a general workaround for the following problem in a vSphere 6.5 environment: One Distributed Switch configured with port groups for VMs and one vmkernel port group for the management. No standard switch is in use or available at the ESXi hosts. In case of a crash of the vCenter Server, and if no backup of the vCenter is available, how can I restore a standard switch and migrate the existing vmkernel port group from the distributed switch to the standard switch? I can login to the "host client" to the ESXi host directly, see the existing vmkernel port group at the dvSwitch, but I cannot move it to the newly created standard switch. Is there any solution for this?? Kind Regards, Andre

Hi at all, I want to open a console from a VM in the vSphere Web Client. With vSphere 6 BETA or RC this was not a problem, but with the GA I cannot open a console. 1. Right-klick to the VM, that "open console" starts a further tab with the following message: Re-Launching and Re-connecting doesn't solve the problem. I tried this with firefox, IE and also Google Chrome at 2 different machines. With Google Chrome I doesn't get any message. 2. Trying to install the VMRC 7.0.1 at my (physical) desktop, I got the following message: 3. Trying to install the VMRC 7.0.1 at my (virtual) desktop, I got the following message: "These installation package is not supportet at this platform." Does anybody know whats wrong here? Would be very nice if I can solve this. Best Regards, Andre

Hi Suresh, my god - I have solved it. The vCenter user name is not an "normal" administrative account from the domain the vCenter is a member of, instead there I have to enter "system-domain\admin"! OK - I just read this also in the admin guide. How you wrote - this installation is anything else, but not easy like the older VDR versions... Thank you for your help. Now I will test this non-experimental feature:-) Kind Regards, Andre

Hi Suresh, I checked the network settings again, further I configured also the hosts file at the VDP machine. The network resolution with a ping from VDP to the vCenter and backwards was fine. But nothing happened. I installed vCenter and VDP completely new again. Now in the vCenter registration at "vCenter-username" I entered the username with "domainname\username" format. Now I get an error windows with a red cross only!?! Is this VDP feature experimental?? See screenshot. Regards, Andre

Hi, I want to setup the vSphere Data Protection VM. The Import was successful. But after that I opened the Webbrowser, entered "https://IP-aress:8543/vdp-configure". At the side "vCenter registration" I entered -vCenter username -vCenter password -vCenter hostname -vCenter port (443). But what I have to enter at "SSO hostname"??? I tried the same hostname like the vCenter hostname, because I installed the vCenter SSO at the same machine. I always get an error message, if I want to test the connection: "The connection test did not complete successfully. Modify your network settings or VDP credentials and then click "Test connection" to run the connection test again." See also in the screenshot. In the DNS I registered the VDP machine, also with a reverse lookup. What is wrong? Kind regards, Andre

Hi, I have a problem understanding the following behaviour. I have one ESXi 4.1 host with one VM on the local VMFS-datastore of this host. I am connected to this host with a slow internet connection, because the location of this host is outside my country. The local-stored VM is a Windows 2008 R2 OS - on this VM I have a vSphere client, and this client is connected to the ESXi host directly. Now I want to upload a 3GB file from the (local-stored) VM to the local ESXi datastore. I think this upload process should run within the ESXi network, so that it would be very fast. But in fact the upload task is in progress, and it seems to take about 20 hours, if the information in the task window is right!! What can I do to accelerate this upload? Kind regards, Andre

Hi, today I installed a vSphere 5 environment (vCenter 5 and an ESXi5.0). I created one standard vswitch with a virtual machine port group "VM Network", further a distributed switch with a dvPortGroup named "Production". After I migrated the network (only one vnic) of the VM from the port group "VM Network" to "Production", in the GUI of the machine in the summary tab I can see both networks, noz only one network. Also in the configuration tab of the affected ESXi host, the VM is shown at the standard switch AND at the distributed switch. The network should only appears at the distributed switch! Why this behaviour occurs? Kind regards, Andre

Hi Girls and Boys! Perhaps I have a boring question, but unfortunately I cannot find the right answer for this. I would create an e-mail notification, but not only for one specific alarm condition, rather for every kind of alarm, which could be displayed in the vSphere client (connected to the vCenter). This could be an alarm for datastore using (warnings, alerts), heavy ressource usage at virtual machines, and so on. For every (single) alarm I can manipulate this in the definition. But I want to manipulate this for all alarms in one step. Who can help me, and give me a tip? Kind regards, Andre
