Windows could not parse or process unattend answer file drive:\Windows\Panther\unattend.xml for pass oobeSystem. The settings specified in the answer file cannot be applied. The error was detected while processing settings for component . I get this after cloning a new win7 enterprise x64 a template. the template was just made and added to the domain and patched. I found this article from MS http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947303 This problem occurs because you have set a value for the ShowMediaCenter option in the Unattend.xml file. Is there a way to see if this option is being set by vmware's customization wizard? How do i fix this problem so i can clone win7.

I don't have an answer for you, but i found 2 KB articles that might help you. For one i would focus on the VSS error and not the quiesceing issue at this point. Take a look at these: although this apply's to xp and not 2003 per say i would still check it out Reguards Don.

it would apear vmware tools is not installing properly in win 2008 64 bit R2. I only see 2 of the 4+ vmware services Vmware tools service and the VMware upgrade helper. the snapshot service is completly missing. when i had this missing in the past it was due to com+ being disabled. the problem is this R2 is a fresh install with no additional security lockdowns or patches. The other issue is the vmware tools is yet again not reporting the failed services and reporting a tools success. Any suggestions? Don

We had snapshots failing with the error: Create virtual machine snapshot Cannot create a quiesced snapshot because the create snapshot operation exceeded the time limit for holding off I/O in the frozen virtual machine. result was that "vmware snapshot provider" service was not installed during the SUCCESSFUL vmware tools install. it did not get installed because the Com+ System Application service was disabled during the VMware tools install. after this service was enabled and VMware tools was repaired and the VM rebooted. snapshots now work successfully. 2 services i found need to be running or at minimum not disabled are the Com+ system application and the Distributed transaction coordinator services. Snapshots still work after you disable com+ after the vmware tools install. I am not sure if com+ is needed for anything after setup. I WISH VMware would and an error msg if the installer fails to install all the selected components as this would have made troubleshooting MUCH easier. I would also like Vmware to add this solution to there Snapshot troubleshooting GUIDE. VMware support and dell support aparently do not know about this issue, as i have been working with them for the past few weeks on this issue.

What problems does VRD have with over 1TB datastores? one of our home dir servers is nearing 1.5tb's and we want to try using vrd to reduce its backup size and duration. also have about 50 other vms we would like to vdr. 2nd question, how would i reliably copy the data store data to tape and have it usable in a DR situation? Thanks Don

we have 4gb/s fiber channel, Emc cx3-20 san and backing up from raid 1+0 8 disk array. all backups from this array and anyothers in our san only backup at 5mb/s using either full VM or FIle level VCB backups. When i ran a disk benchmark i get 150mb/s on that raid. How can i make backups faster? how do i even start to isolate this issue? what kind of preformance from a 1+0 should i recieve(15000rpm fc)? also on our sata raid (7200rmp 1TB drives) on the san its a 10disk raid 5 and we only get 25mb/s this seems drastically lower then it should be. I welcome any help on this matter Don
