Hi! Thanks for replying. Since I posted this I had to delete my DB. Uninstall and reinstall. That fixed the problem but what a pain! Just a note for other people or customers with issues like this, SRM "uninstall" does not "delete" or entirely remove the database even though it says it does in the uninstall screens. It definitely deleted the tables, but the name and reference was still there. And if tables were previously missing, uninstall doesn't work and you will have to delete the DB manually.

Hi all, I got myself into a situation where I now have a corrupted SRM SQL database. I uninstalled SRM and then re-installed. On re-installing even though I am selecting "Recreate the database" I get errors during installation that "Failed to drop database tables The table pd_remotesite" has been dropped already and can't be dropped. Failed to drop 1 table. No big deal I thought, and clicked "No" to skip the check, but installation freaks out and exits! Ideas how to get around this? thanks, Holly

I want to run scripts in the hidden console. I realize this is probably not a supported thing to do. I did notice a major performance hit when I compared how long it took the same script to run in the ESX server compared to the ESXi server. I was looking for a way to increase the system resources (memory most likely) to speed things up. thanks h
Is it possible to give busybox, the hidden console, in ESX4i more memory? How about more CPU resources? How can I do this from the VI Client? thanks, -h

I mean how can you tell if the vmdk file is thin or thick without actually doing something like adding zeros to it with "vmkfstools -k" vmkfstools -k win2k3sp2_64v_harb-07.vmdk Eager zeroing operation is not allowed on virtual disk win2k3sp2_64v_harb-07.vmdk of type "eagerzeroedthick" vmkfstools -K win2k3sp2_64v_harb-07.vmdk Hole Punching: 100% done. Is there something that will just tell me if its "thin"?

Let me put that another way, I know how to I can get into the datastore with VI Ext to see what vmdk files are there. I've used this before: http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vc-sdk/visdk41pubs/ApiReference/index.html Previously, in the ESX console, I could open a -flat.vmdk file, and read it and write it back with Perl system calls. I wanted to do something similar in the vMa. The question is, is it possible? And do I have to mount /vmfs/volumes? thanks, -h
How can I use the vMa to mount a vmdk file to read the geometry information? I know I can do this with the VDDK but the call is sorta slow, depending on how the network is. I'd lik...

I'd like to be able to open up a vmdk file or a -flat file, but I'm not sure how to mount /vmfs/volumes in the vMa? thanks, - h

ESX was able to see my 1TB LUN from my NetApp storage array. When I tried to max a datastore out of this LUN there seemed to be a limitation of 0.25 of the TB storage. (And in turn can only give Windows a 256GB disk). If I thin provision multiple disks together will I be able to give Windows a 1TB disk then? thanks, -h

If I open a few firewall ports, then close some, then query the firewall, then disable a service and open another port I noticed the firewall will "LOCK." I was experimenting to see which services used "https" and if it made a different connecting to my storage array via SSL on port 443. That's more use of the "esxcfg-firewall" command than normal I would suspect so I deleted the "esx.conf.LOCK' file. I just wonder if that can cause other issues? thanks, h
What is the purpose of locks files that get created with the firewall? I can see how lock files would be necessary for vmdks, but sometimes after too many firewall commands a "esx.conf.LOCK" ge...
