I am creating a virtual firewall and will have a virtualized network interface going to my Internet ISP. I am not planning on bringing this connection to a switch. I am just going to plug it into the physical NIC on my OPNsense server. On the virtual switch/port group side would I just use 0 for the vlan?

Hello all, I hope you can help me figure out why I am seeing what I am seeing. I have an ESXi server that has a 2 port NIC dedicated to the default management port group. This port group is set for vlan 1, which is my 192.168.0.0/24 subnet. The ESXi server has an IP of 192.168.0.16/24 and I can hit it no problem.  The first screenshot I have attached shows you this port group and the two vnics attached. The second screenshot shows you vnic2 and the third screenshot shows you vnic1. Both of the vnics are saying the discovered subnet 1 is 0.0.0.1-255.255.255.254, which is showing as vlan 1. Is this just a default or should I be seeing a truly discovered subnet that should be in the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet, as configured. The two nics are connected to two access ports on a physical switch. The ports on the physical switch are trunked and setup in a static LAG. The LAG is also tagged for vlan 1. Am I doing anything wrong? I think I got it right. Thanks, Steve

Hello all, I am a network engineer who now has responsibility for vSphere products. I am beginning to dive into vSwitches and have a few questions that I hope someone could help me with. My lab ESXi server is connected to my core switch. I would like two vlans to flow to the vSwitch, vlans 30 and 40. The core switch is configured as tagged for vlans 30 and 40. Forst off is this correct or should I be setting these as untagged to flow. Second what changes do I have to make on the vSwitch side, so that I can create vms and put them on the right vlan? Right now the vSwitch is showing vlan 0, which I assume is a default? Thanks, Steve
