Following up from this issue I noticed I have the following errors in the VPXD logs... [04052 info 'Default'] Registry Item DB 5 value is '50' [04052 info 'Default'] [VpxdVdb::SetDBType] Logging in to DSN: VMware vCenter with username [04052 error 'Default'] [VpxKey::Decrypt] crypto failure: error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0) [04052 error 'Default'] [VpxdCert] Failed to decrypt password: applying key to encrypted data failed (likely the wrong key) [04052 error 'Default'] [VpxdVdb::SetDBType]: Database error: ODBC error: () - [04052 error 'Default'] Error getting configuration info from the database Looking through KB articles it would appear the issue is with the DB password and it requires re-authenticating.  However, as I haven't got as far as loading the certificate into memory I don't understand why when I replace the old files with the newly created ones I get the error.  After all the instructions state the DB password has to be re-entered once the new certificate has been loaded into memory.

Hi All, I'm trying to renew the CA certificate on one of our ESX 5.0 VC Server.  It's a process I have carried out in the past and not had any particular issues.  However, this time once I have created my rui.crt, rui.pfx & rui.key and replaced them in the two relevant SSL Certificate Locations I am unable to load them into memory.  When I type https://localhost/mob/?moid=vpxd-securitymanager&vmodl=1 my browser fails to prompt me for the VI-ADMN logging information.  I notice in the event logs I get EVENT IDs 1000 stating Faulting Application vpxd.exe faulting module kernel32.dll - Also EVENT ID 1000 stating The description for EVENT 1000 from source VMware Virtual Center cannot be found.  Either the component that raise this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted  As soon as I replace the old files back into their original location the services start up OK.  I believe our certificate server to be OK and as far as I can see the files Openssl.cfg file looks to be configured correctly. The issue is obviously with the new files created, but I'm not too sure where else to start looking.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. J

Hi, I have a Fujitsu RX2540 Server.  We have purchased additional Fujitsu D2755 NIC's that will be configured for SR-IOV.  I have enabled SR-IOV in the BIOS, but when I try to enable it via the web client I get the below error... It states try setting it to Auto Negotiation, but this is not an option when click the drop down box.  As far as I'm aware the cards are on the VMware compatibility list (So I'm told).  As anybody had a similar issue when trying to set the configured speed to Auto Negotiation? I'm running ESXi 5.5 Many thanks.

Thanks for the response MKguy.  I managed to get access to a test VM and tested this out.  It looks like it can be done, but the disk shows an extra partition even though it is labelled the same as the one I extended For example see below This is the view I have in Disk manager when I view the current disks prior to extending the LUN Partition1 Partition 2 Partition 3 Partition 4 Data G: 40GB Temp H: 20GB Logs I: 10GB Apps E: 10GB The view below is what I see in Disk manager once the LUN as been extended and the 1st partition has been extended. Partition 1 Partition 2 Partition 3 Partition 4 Partition 5 Data G: 40GB Temp H: 20GB Logs I: 10GB Apps E: 10GB Data G: 20GB It's not ideal, but when I look at the properties of the disk drive in My computer I can see that my drive has a new disk size of 60GB, which is what I need.  The disks did have to be converted to dynamic, which isn't an issue, but I'm not sure if this will have any further knock on effects down the line. Thanks again, J

Hi, I have a Virtual Server that has two Virtual Disks (Disk 0 & DISK 1).  Disk 0 contains the system disk and that is the only partition.  Disk 1 is 80 GB and in the OS shows 4 partitions E, F, G & H for arguments sake.  I have a request to extend one of the partitions by 20 GB.  Extending the disk is no issue, as I have the SAN storage and the OS is 2008, so this can be done on the fly.  Both Disks are Basis disks in the OS.  My question is when I add the extra storage to Disk 1 can I simply extend the partition I want the extra space on, or do I have to make Disk 1 dynamic prior to this? I appreciate it's a bit of an OS query more than VMWARE. Thanks J
Thanks for the response! That's the thing, VM monitoring is set to disabled.  Getting the Application Monitoring message confuses me ever so slightly :smileyconfused: Cheers, JT

Hi All, I'm getting several events stating "vSphere HA Detected application heartbeat failure for this Virtual Machine".  These events appear to be associated with Zimbra Mailbox servers running a Gueat OS of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (64-bit).  VMware Tools is Running (3rd-part/Independent) and as far as I can ascertain all is running well.  As far as I am aware Application Monitoring is not configured as I thought for this to happen the SDK had to be used and I believe this not to be the case. As anybody had similar issues? Many thanks JT

Thanks for the updates guys. I do think as nshetty states the issue is with "The controller BBWC or the hardware status tab not able to speak to the agents" I found the following articles that relate to CMI providers, speciffically LSI Megaraid that we use on all out hosts. http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2001549 http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/vcl/cimprovider.php#LSI Neither state there is a CMI for LSI, so as you guys have reccommended, would the best option be to upgrade the BIOS, or is there another option?  The image I used to built the hosts was downloaded from the Fujitsu website, as I need Server view to be incorporated. Thanks again guys, Jason

Hi Spravtek, Thanks for your response.  The servers have been on for quite some time.  I have accepted the alarms, several times, but they trigger again after a certain period of time.  It is strange that all servers display the same issue, so I don't think there is a Hardware issue. Regards, Jason

We have recently built 11 ESXi 5 hosts in two different environments.  Eveything appears fine, but on all hosts we have an error in the Hardware Staus Tab showing Battery 0 on controller 50030057015AD620 - Battery status unknown.  Everything appears fine, but our Enterprise Management team are picking up the alerts.  Has anybody seen this before?  I have attached a screen shot with the error. Thanks, J

Could anybody give me an explanation as to what the metric Total data rate (KB/sec) is? The reason I ask is we use Athene to monitor our environment and basically the majority of metrics are just set to the Virtual Center defaults. However on one of our VM's this metric is constantly exceeding its threshold 70 KB/sec - Alert and 85 KB/sec - Alarm. I can see no problem with the VM, and I was wondering is this threshold set too low? However, other VM's on the same host & cluster have the same setting and do no alert. I know the nature of the VM will be a major factor, but If I had an understanding of the metric in the first place it may give me other options to check. Thanks. Jay
I bit the bullet on this one and removed the file. I have had no issues as the moment, but this is not to say I will down th eline.
Thank You very much for your response - You're a star!!! The only other thing I had to do was restart vmware-vpxa service, as I couldn't reconnect he host. Thanks again.

Hi, I had a Vm that wouldn't power on - I received the error "The system returned on error. Communication with the virtual machine may have been interrupted". I had a look around the Communities and found lots of useful suggestions, the majority related to using the VMWARE-CMD. Now I have 8 ESX 3.0.2 servers in a cluster and when I ssh to the console on the other 7 I have no problem running a VMWARE-CMD, but on this particular host which contains the dodgy VM I get the error VMControl error -3: Invalid arguments: Login Failed - I get this if I try a getstate/start/stop/reset you name it! I even get it if I just try VMWARE-CMD -l. Has anybody had a similar issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, Currently my /tmp directory is quite full on one of my hosts. When I check the size of files it contains I notice I have two references to "vmwareclustermanager.trace". One is 140mb and one is 83mb. The date on these files have not changed for over a month. I believe the file may have reference to non-registered guests, but as far as I can see I don't have any (Is there another way to check this out)? Is it ok to delete these files so I can reclaim space or would there be an impact on my host? Thanks.

Hello! I have an XP vm that I have upped the memory from 2GB to 4GB. I would like to upgrade the paging file to reflect these changes, but when I try to amend the paging file I get an error stating I can only upgrade to a maximum of 4096. I have enough disc space on the drive and can amend the page file anything up to 4096. After increasing the memory on the VM I also notice the CPU usage is a lot busier - I guess these are related? If anybody has had a similar experience, it would be great to know how you got around this. Thanks.

Hi, I work in an environment where I have quite a few VM's. Due to storage shortages and resource restrictions I'm looking to find a quick and easy way of finding out which VM's have not been used for a certain period of time. Is there anyway I can find this out in bulk? Thank You :smileyblush:
