In the SRM admin guide I see: If the virtual machine does not report an OS heartbeat within the specified interval after being powered on, an error is reported and the recovery plan proceeds to the next virtual machine. NOTE Responses cannot be detected on virtual machines that do not have VMware Tools installed. Maybe this note is saying: if you do not have the vmware tools, the response cannot be detected and the error in NOT reported. The error is reported is you have the tools installed and the OS heartbeat is not detected.... Am I right?
The overall Recovery Plan status is Success. I know that is very strange but I did many tests (srm 4.0) and the result is always the same.

Hi everybody. I'm doing some SRM tests and one of the VMs protected is a VM without any OS installed and consequently without VMwareTools. If I test (or RUN) the recovery plan for all the VMs, when the VM without OS starts, the plan is waiting for OS heartbeat. After the timeout (600 sec.) a green mark appears. Why a green mark If the timeout is going without receiving the OS heartbeat ? Thanks and regards mb

Hi Peoples, I've well configured orchestrator and now I'm testing workflows. The first workflow I've tested is library\vcenter\virtual machine management\move and migrate\MIGRATE VIRTUAL MACHINE I right click it and choose EXECUTE WORKFLOW, after inserting all the parameters, the choosed VM is correctly migrated. Now I'm testing library\vcenter\storage\DISPLAY ALL DATASTRES AND DISKS I right click it and choose EXECUTE WORKFLOW. It runs and ends but where I can see the display results? Thanks in advance and best regards vmb
Now it's clear. Thanks again vmb
Maybe is my poor english that do not help me to understand. I post some screenshot so you can help me to understand how the slots are calculated. Thanks again

I'm very confused : if I look the cluster RESOURCE ALLOCATION tab before enabling the HA, I see: TOT CAPACITY = 24616MHz, RES CAPACITY= 0, AVAILABLE CAPACITY=24616MHz After enabling the HA I see: TOT CAPACITY = 24616MHz, RES CAPACITY= 4864MHz, AVAILABLE CAPACITY=19752MHz So I think that the RES CAPACITY= 4864 is the reservation applied by the HA to provide some free slots for restarting the VMs. But I'm discovering that the AVAILABLE CAPACITY=19752MHz is the number used to calculate the TOTAL SLOTS IN CLUSTER and I think that it's not logical, because the TOTAL SLOTS IN CLUSTER should come from the TOT CAPACITY = 24616MHz. and after subtracting the USED SLOTS I can obtain the AVAILABLE CAPACITY. I'm very very confused. Please help me to clarify

I've a cluster with 2 host. From the summary window I see tha my cluster has 25GHz as total CPU resource and 7,99GB as Totaly Memory (my 2 host are identical). From the advanced HA runtime info I see that the slot size is: 256MHz, 119MB, 1 vCPU and the total slot in cluster are 50. I do not understand how 50 slots are calculated: 25GHz / 256 MHz = 97 8GB / 119MB = 67 If I've understand well the vsphere availability guide the total slots should be 67. Where am I wrong? attached a screenshot. Thanks in advance and regards

I' m trying to save the VDR destination store to tape with a windows physical backup server. Please tell me if my uderstand of the 3 following environments is right: First I power off the VDR appliance, so I'm sure that the VDR destination store is inactive 1) VDR destination store on CIFS sfare: my backup server can "see" the files inside the CIFS share and it is able to copy/move them to tape 2) VDR destination store on VMDK virtual disk: I need the VCB installed on my backup server to mount the VMDK on my backup server and it is able to copy/move the files to tape 3) VDR destination store on RDM : I can use the VCB installed on my backup server to mount the VMDK and it is able to copy/move the files to tape or I can backup directly the FC LUN seen from my backup server if I do not use automount Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks in advance and best regards MB

I have a FC storage with 2 SP active/passive and my servers have 2 HBA. If I look at the default multipath policy on one of the datastore created on a LUN I see: vnhba1:c0:t0:l0 standby vnhba1:c0:t1:l0 standby vnhba2:c0:t0:l0 active (I/O) vnhba2:c0:t1:l0 active The active (I/O) path is the path actually used for I/O and the standby paths are the paths that can be used for I/O if active paths fail. What does it means the path active but without the '(I/O)' ? And why this path is using the second SP on my active/passive storage? I attach a screenshot. AAny hel will be very appreciated. Thanks in advance. M

In the dvPortGroup advanced settings window, I specify a the portname format as <portgroupName><portIndex> After, on the VM edit settings window I wish to connect the VM network adatpter to a specific port but when I click on network connection/specify port I do not see any Port ID listed. How can I connect a VM (or a vmkernel ) to a specific port ? Thanks in advance, any answer will be apreciated.

hello to everybody: I create a new ip pool in my datacenter and I associate it to an existing virtual machine port group. I create a new vapp, on the "advanced/ip allocation" panel I select 'OVF environment' and on the "IP allocation policy" panel I select 'transient'. Now I move 2 VM inside my vapp, they are connected to the virtual machine port group, that I used for the ip pool and on edit setting/options/vapp options I selected 'enable'. I export my vapp, I import it on another system where an identical ip pool is defined but, when I power on my vapp, the VMs do not get the IPaddrees from the pool. Where is my error? Any answer will be appreciated
