I want to increase the size of my datastore. I have an ESXi 7 server which utilizes a single, on-board, SSD for a datastore. ESXi is installed on a seperate drive. I believe all VM's are thin provisioned. Since I do not have any unused hard-drive connectors on the server, I would like to shutdown the server, remove the SSD that contains the datastore and use a workstation with an external USB 3.1 dock to clone the drive to a larger SSD. I haven't found a comprehensive tutorial on doing this so I don't know if this is doable. Is this feasible or am I just setting myself up for failure down the road? If this can be done without encountering issues, what's the best software to use for cloning (prefer Windows but I can use Linux). I'm assuming I will have to increase the size of one or more partitions??? Are there other steps involved?

I have a 9260-8i and I have not updated from 9.5U1 because of the lack of legacy RAID controller support with newer versions of vSphere. Can someone please chime in and tell us if 9.7U3 and LSA for 9260-8i provides enough features to actually be viable? Does it monitor and send email alerts about disc & battery issues? Can it maintain (discharge/recharge) the BBU like MSM does with 9.5U1?
Same issue with LSI 9260-8i RAID Controller. Wish Broadcom and/or VMWare would just give a straight answer so we know to wait or move to new hardware.

I'm currently on ESXi 6.5u1 (without vCenter) and have MegaRAID discovery working and can see the status and get alerts but I would like to update to ESXi 6.7. Has anyone come up with a decent way to monitor and send email alerts about RAID, drive, battery, etc. issues concerning a ESXi 6.7 machine that has a LSI 9260-8i controller card? It seems VMWare and Broadcom will never add support for ESXi 6.7.
