I have a W98 PC that is functional and needed in a stand-alone environment, not networked. The hardware is becoming unreliable and takes up space, want to convert it to a VM. Converter will not install on W98 and so far I have been unsuccessful trying to install the agent from a remote machine. I can remove the SATA hard drive and connect it USB to a W11 PC running Standalone Converter (and also using VMware Workstation to run another VM). But Converter will not work on a dark OS. Is there a way to make an image of that W98 drive that I can then convert to a VMDK? Mike

BOOM! The chkdsk did it! VM successfully created. Thank you very much good sir!   Mike

First: I understand it is no longer supported. Running Standalone P2V on a Windows 10 PC. The PC has  a 2TB C: w/ 500GB used and a 200MB system partition. Local P2V fails at the same spot each time 15% complete with "file-level volume clone error failed with sourcevolumeid \WindowsBitmapDriverVolumeId=[hex code] and target volume id 23,2 Error code: 225" All I have found about error 225 is related to Windows Defender possible causing a conflict. But why would that be happening at 15% complete? I ran the P2V without selecting C: and only selected the D drive and it got to 98% complete before erroring out w "Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible." So it appears that something at a particular spot on C: is throwing the error. Can attach logs if any value. I've defragged and ran "sfc /scannow" which found no errors. Any ideas?
Was able to reboot the VM, and that cleared it.

Ran a V2V and it was chugging along working fine. It hung at 35% and sat there for half a day. I decided to cancel and troubleshoot. Now the cancel process is hung. I found a DNS issue that *I think* solved the problem. So I'm ready to retry the V2V. I closed the Converter and restarted the 3 VMware Converter services. But when I restart the services and then run Converter, it goes back to the same spot in the middle of that job, waiting for the cancel to finish. How do I clear out a job that did not complete, if restarting the services didn't clear it out?
