I thought to connect my smartcard reader to vSphere client, I wouldn't like to involve 'directly' my 3 physical ESXi 4.1 servers (Hypervisor environment) linking an external device. I read in 5.x version I can connect my device to vSphere but in 4.1 it doesn't this alternative? I believe it existed a solution, as in VMWARE workstation, to map client USB device in guest OS
Can I add usb smart card reader device inside my guest Windows OS ? .I'm using cclient vSphere.
How can you way to export VM from ESXi 4.1 environment because I need to import this machine into my new test ESX 5.1 U1. Could I have problems in virtual hardware detection ? thanks
Excuse me a.p. I read only first section of document but after your message I read carefully document you suggested me, so I solved my license problem. Thank you again

I'd like to remember you I downloaded Hp customized ISO of ESXi 5.1 U1 and I installed it, then I got vSphere 5.1 by https://<hostname of me ESXi host> by click on "download vsphere client" and I installed it on my pc. When I run vSphere client I clicked on "help", "vmware on the web", "register now"... I.E. is opened at https://www.vmware.com/account/secure/productRegistration.do and I typed "the license key" which I found according to the following steps: I tried to open this link "https://www.vmware.com/go/get-free-esxi, which a.p. has indicated,  page is redirect to https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi5&lp=default Then I recreated new VMware account on myvmware and I can see in 'License Information' section the license key. Perhaps I have to download vSphere 5.1 from vmware site? I want to say the same site where I retrieved license key. PS I attached evaluation message from vsphere client
Thank you very much for your precious help but when I tried to insert license key I got "it's already registred". I tried to create new vmware account and at this url https://my.vmware.com/group... See more...

I'm using ESXi 4.1 with vCenter server and I need to convert "power-on" machine into file because later I'm going to import into my Vmware infrastucture server. If I use "Vcenter converter standalone client" I can only to specify, as destination,  "Vmware infrastucture server" and not any local folder "Physical Machine" to convert is on public network. My vCenter server in on private network.

I solved problem ! It was BusLogic driver to insert into kernel by this procedure by Linux Rescue CD: I modified /etc/modprobes.conf replacing all scsi devices aliases with the only and unique 'alias scsi_hostadapter BusLogic' entry; I create another copy of this file on /etc/modules.conf Then I run mkinitrd --preload=BusLogic --with=BusLogic initrdXXXX.img XXXX I had another problem because I run rescue mode (by downloading MINIMAL version CD) I got msg "no modules available for this kernel..." while if I run first dvd for Fedora 7 installation in rescue mode mkinitrd works fine !

I used VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 4.3 CD to convert Fedora Core 7 ( Kernel 2.6.21 ) on real machine, which runs on HP Proliant ML 350 G3. This machine has Smart Array controller with n.2 SCSI 72 GB hot swap disk and there is LVM. When I run this VM on VMware ESX 4 I'm getting message "No volume groups found" and system goes into kernel panic. Can you suggest me how I can solve it ?
