I've just been through a best practices audit and VCSA 6 is still using LSI Logic Parallel (not even SAS) for the disk controller. Furthermore, VMware is placing all the disks on one controller (against their own best practice). This is also the case with several of VMware's other appliances

Yes, Site Recovery Manager 5.5.1 is listed as compatible with vCenter Server 5.5 U3 in the interoperability matrix. The Site Recovery Manager 5.5.1 release notes also state "SRM 5.5.1.x has been fully tested with and fully supports vCenter Server 5.5u1, 5.5u2, and 5.5u3." However, the fact remains that SRM 5.5.1 is broken with vCenter Server 5.5 U3b.

I'm trying to register Orchestrator as a vCenter Server extension. I click the plus which takes me to a screen titled "Select a SdkConnection". I then expand vCO Servers, then the vco instance, then vCenter Server, then I select/highlight my vCenter connection that ends with /sdk. I receive a popup error stating "No item selected." What am I doing wrong here? vCenter is 5.5 Update 3b. Thank you.

After installation of vCenter 5.5 Update 3b, SRM 5.5 no longer functions. The vmware-dr logs show several SSL Exceptions "error: class Vmacore::Ssl::SSLException(SSL Exception: error:140000DB:SSL routines:SSL routines:short read)". The VMware product interoperability matrixes for SRM have never shown any of the a/b/c/d/etc releases of vCenter, so I don't know if this is supposed to be working or not.

Same problems here, same ESXi build. It's actually worse in that I cannot even SSH to the host because we have SSH turned off by policy, and there is no way to enable SSH when the host is in this state. Edit: It seems we are not alone. Check reddit thread "ESXi 6.0U1a fully patched...vpxa crashing randomly, host disconnected from vCenter".
That Nessus plugin (85582) is rather new so it will probably be quite a while before vendors fix their applications. For reference: https://discussions.tenable.com/thread/9429

You want array write cache not drive write cache. You maybe enabled drive write cache, but drive cache is not protected if power is lost. For array write cache, you need to have the battery-backed write cache (BBWC) or flash-backed write cache (FBWC) module installed. A good way to check is if the cache ratio says 100% read, then BBWC/FBWC is likely not installed (or not working properly.. battery might be dead if BBWC). I believe 25% read, 75% write is the default with BBWC/FBWC installed. Performance will be absolutely horrible without the BBWC/FBWC. Also, cache mode should be "write back" not "write through". Another thing to check is if you have power management set to Static High in the system BIOS, and High Performance in the vSphere power management settings.
