You don't want to go there. Unless you want to have an long nice call with support Monitor your datastores when using thin provisioned VMs. Always allow enough space to be available. Set an alarm when your datastore passes 80% or so.

This is most likely an indicator that your credentials are incorrect. That's the reason for getting a 403 HTTP error. This scipt has been tested against ESXi 4.1, with positive results.

NetApp MetroCluster assures the end use that the datastores (or storage) are available on both sites. NetApp MetroCluster is one of the few solutions that has a validated design to build cluster over physical datacenters. As I already mentioned this post / whitepaper explains it all :http://blogs.netapp.com/virtualization/2010/07/a-continuous-availability-solution-for-vmware-vsphere-and-netapp.html In short : Cool stuff :smileysilly:

Answer : It depends What do you want to do with this environment. Just do some occasional testing or run a heavy resource application on it? The core is more then sufficient if you just want to use it for occasional testing. Since it's a test environment I don't expect that you'll need another processor. For the memory calcultation : To be save, don't overcommit and calculate resources for ESXi. So if all machines get 2 Gb , just put in 8 Gb (3 x 2Gb + 2 GB for ESXi) Then again. If you only use it for occasional testing, 4 Gb is more then enough.

If you have to drive 200 miles for re-installation,then maybe remote KVM is a better option. You say you don't have those services, but you can take a look at these appliances : UDA - http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/465513 EDA - http://communities.vmware.com/thread/139465 But then again for reinstallation you need to have some sort of (power-)management control to reboot your server into PXE. Have a look at the following link for installing via kickstart : http://thinkcloud.nl/2011/02/06/kickstart-ing-esxi/ Also you can do it via PowerCLI : http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8170

Have you already updated to Update 1 ? Have a look at the release notes of 4.1 : arge number of storage-related messages in the vmkernel log file When ESX or ESXi starts on a host with several physical paths to storage devices, the vmkernel log file records a large number of storage-related messages similar to the following: Nov 3 23:10:19 vmkernel: 0:00:00:44.917 cpu2:4347)Vob: ImplContextAddList:1222: Vob add (@&!*@*@(vob.scsi.scsipath.add)Add path: %s) failed: VOB context overflow The system might log similar messages during storage rescans. The messages are expected behavior and do not indicate any failure. They are harmless and you can safely ignore them. Workaround: Turn off logging if you do not want to see the messages.

If you are sure you purchased 1 vCenter Foundation and 3 ESX Advanced licenses, which as you say have been confirmed in an email to you, then you should go back to your VMware license reseller or contact VMware license support for further details. Your portal says 1 vCenter Foundation license and 2 ESX Advanced (4 CPU) licenses. So you'll never gonna end up licensing the 3rd host. The license codes simply don't cover it.

ODBC isn't hard coded. You can change the settings for ODBC by starting the Data Sources (ODBC) under Administrative Tools (if using Win2k8) In general I think you should take the following steps. * Shutdown vCenter / VUM service * Change permissions on database to Windows account and set MS SQL to Windows authentication * Reconfigure ODBC connection on server * Start vCenter / VUM service Note that VUM uses a 32-bit ODBC connection. Check the installation guide for more details : http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsp_vum_41_admin_guide.pdf
Look under services (Run -> services.msc) and see if you can find the "old" login somewhere under Log On As Are there any other server which are running some sort of script or tool?

Make sure you have the following licenses installed for EMC : SYMAPI Feature: BASE / Symmetrix SYMAPI Feature: SERVER / Symmetrix SYMAPI Feature: SRDF / Symmetrix SYMAPI Feature: TF/CG / Symmetrix SYMAPI Feature: TF-Clone / Symmetrix And reconfigure your configuration by following the whitepaper : http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware_SRM_SRDF_bestpractices.pdf It's not possible that you don't change anything and the configuration breaks. So if you don't know what changed, you'll have to start from scratch. That or either call in the help of EMC to resolve your issue. As I mentioned before, there can be several reasons : - Shadowcopy LUNs aren't configured correctly anymore - Licenses aren't availble - Security (Gatekeepr ACL) has been modified
Should be possible. You should bring down the vCenter service. Reconfigure the ODBC connection with the domain account and restart the vCenter service.
