I have a scheduled task that shuts down a VM. Then another one that clones the VM and finally one that powers the VM back on. My issue is that after the first iteration completes successfully, the rest fails with an error during the clone stating a clone for xxx already exists. Is there a way to do this so that it would either delete the clone already there or perhaps keep x # of them there? Thanks

I had a strange request (or rather one I have not had before) where a customer is asking me what name does the ESX COS use for the IP address for VMotion? I took a look and it appears they all begin with ‘minint-‘ with 7 character appended at the end. Does anyone know how these names are determined, i.e., it is like the MAC of a VM where the first several characters are based on the individual Hosts MAC? Finally, doe sthe mininy- name change each time the Host performs a Vmotion? Thanks, Todd

I am trying to use Converter (latest version) to hot P2V a Windows 2000, SP4 Server. I notice that of the below drivers, the bottom one is showing as the service name is invalid, which I think is why my conversion fails shortly after it starts. How do I fix this? To reproduce the error, install Converter, latest version (previous versions should also work), use a process monitor tool liek Process MOnitor from Systernals (Microsoft owns them now), and have it do a capture of all processes after reboot. Reboot the machine and wait 5 minutes or so. Launch process monitor. It asks if you wan tto save from a previous capture, do so. This takes several minutes. After it loads, click on tools, then process tree. Look in the command column and you will see it.

Have you guys seen this before and I wonder (probably a developer) who Sirish is? Can't believe a large company could allow something like that to get thru QA. Kind of funny.

I have a number of ESX servers (VI 3) attached to an EMC DMX at site A. I have a duplicate at Site B. Using SRDF /A to replicate the disk files, when we try and present the storage to the ESX servers at Site B, the Hosts see the LUNs as unformatted storage. I would image we are not doing somethign simple, any ideas? Thanks in advance. Todd

So that begs the follow up question: What is the bug report # and what is the estimated time to fix/version it will be fix in?

Default Memory Alarm: Currently, "Host Memory Usage" appears to be tied to the wrong counter. While stated as being memory "used" we believe it is actually triggered by memory "Granted." During the interval, at no time did memory "Used" exceed 75%, and yet the alarms in VC were triggered. During the same interval, memory "Granted" regularly exceeded the Alarm thresholds. "Memory Usage (Average/Absolute) is calculated incorrectly in Performance Report: When exporting a performance report on a cluster, the "Memory Usage" statistic fails to factor in the number of hosts in a cluster. This yields misleading data. In this example, the report indicates average memory usage is 436%. Dividing the result by the number of hosts in the cluster yields the correct average memory usage avarage of 54.52%. Any comments?

I used Veeams FastSCp to move an entire VMs directory from one host to another host. It powered on without issues, but when I tried to connect via Vmware Console using VirtualCenter client, I got an error stating I did not have access to connect. All files that I copied using Veeam FastSCP have -rw-r r except for the swap file of the Vm, which has -rw-------. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Also, the config file, *.vmx, is not marked as executable. Do I just do a chmod a+x filename ?
Actually, 5.2 is supported with 3.02, which is what we are going to run on the new servers. Thanks

What are a couple fo models of servers I can get (for use at my home) to run ESX on? I need it to be able to run 64 bit Vms. Does not matter to me, Dell, IBM, HP. Just the cost. Example: 2 years ago I bought 2 Dell 1600SC servers for about $1000 each and it runs ESX fine. However due to the CPU, they dont support 64 bit Vms. Thanks

I am trying to power on my 1st Windows 2003 Server x64 VM on ESX 3.01 with latest patches. When I do, I get an error stating the cpu of the host is incompatible with the cpu feature requirements of virtual machine, problem detected at cpuid level 0x80000001 register 'edx'. I am running ESX on an HP ML 370 G4 with latest firmware. Processors are the Intel Xeon 3.4 GHz processor. Any ideas? I know the 370 can run Windows 64 bit as a physical OS.

Lets call it semi-automated then. I run the script and then the servers get patches. I dont have the option for anything other that using IIS/FTP unless I do it manually.
