We've got the Intel X-520SR2 controller installed in our ESXi hosts. Network performance isn't what I would expect to see. I'm only seeing about 20-25KB/sec when pushing traffic to the VM. Are their any recommended configuration changes need to maximize a 10G configuration? I've got the two ports load balanced between vmkernel ports and we're using the Equallogic multipath extensions to manage the paths.

Nope, you have to blow away the async drivers in Debug mode and then reload the inbox drivers. There's a .526 firmware from HP but until HP integrates it into the Firmware DVD release best of luck trying to get it applied from a ESX host. We eventually deceided to RMA the cards due to the lack of flow control (firmware "fix" to a bug) and go with the Intel x520 adapters.
We're having the same issues. 520 firmware and 407 async drivers. Got a case open with Vmware about this.
D'oh well that explains it. I thought all the 5xxx series had HT. Thanks for the link to the intel site. That's a great breakdown of the chips and capabilities.

Thanks, that's want I just wanted to confirm. That unless your Host is in a HA Cluster that you aren't affected by Host Isolation.

Is there a list of switches that are approved/recommended for Network and iSCSI traffic? I seem to remember one existing in the early 3.0 days but can't seem to find one now.

We've got two hosts that are currently connected to a fibre chanel HP EVA. We're decommissioning that one and moving to iSCSI SAN. Currently we've got SC and Vmotion running on a vSwitch over a 192.168 address. From what I can tell iSCSI uses the SC for discovery of targets. What's the best way to migrate to a routable VMKernal? Can I just add a new VMkernal that has a routable address or do I need to change the existing configuration?
Moved the ports from a Juniper switch to a Nortel and everything came up. Network guy is digging in to see why, but we're good on our side.

No nothing strange. Just plain old Windows. I can ping any VM in the portgroup, just not outside of it. What we did try was changing the OS type on the 2003 x32 server to 2003 x64, this gives us the option of adding an E1000 NIC. I do that and the network comes up.

We've got a single host running our DR site, was on U3 and now U4. We've got a x64 Windows server happily running and the network is just fine. Yesterday we tried to bring up a x32 windows server from a known good template. Comes up just fine but we were unable to connect to the network external to the vSwitch or even that subnet's gateway on the physical switch. Tried deleting the NIC and creating it as Enhanced VMware NIC but still no luck. The only thing I noticed is the x64 server is running the E1000 vs the Flexible that is the standard on the x32. Anyone seen anything like this before?
Thanks, one further questions, is the preferred method to upgrade using Update Manager or to burn the ISO file for Update 4 to a DVD and upgrade through that?

We're getting ready to install a POC for View. To use composer I need to get to U3, but I need to get everything patched (currently U2). If I use Update Manger it shows all the patches that I'm missing + U3 and U4. When I do the remediate is it smart enough to just install U4 and reboot and then I'd have to rescan to see anything that got missed or does it do everything and the kitchen sink?

We occasionally get slow performance from a VM and vMotioning or rebooting generally fixes the issue. I'm assuming we've got a vNIC that may be misconfigured even though they're showing up at 1000 in the config. Is there a way in the GUI or cli to determine which vNIC is being used by a particular virtual machine?
