Look in the bundleversion.xml file for the correct filename for your ESX version upgrade. I have VC 2.01 then the 3.0 agent is: vpx-upgrade-esx-6-linux-32042
You should be able to import 2.5 VM to 3.0 with VM Importer 2 and VC 2.0. ESX 2.5 and 3.0 have access to the same VMFS-2 volume (ESX 3 in readonly mode). Importer 2 should import VM into ESX3 (V... See more...

Decomspressing works with bsdtar but than I still have a monolithic file which I cant use in GSX or Workstation. You cannot have ESX 2 and 3 on the same LUN. ESX 2 can only work with VMFS-2 ESX 3 works with VMFS-3 and can only read VMFS-2 So you should have 2 LUN's and migrate your machines from 2 -> 3

I have made a copy (with ESXRanger) of a monolithic file and I want to convert it to COW files for use inf VMware Workstation. I kno in ESX I have the possibility with vmkfstools but I want to be able to use my disaster recouvery files when a disaster has occured. Disaster meens no ESX but only my laptop with VMware workstation. I tried VM importer 1 and 2 beta - no succes. Diskmount utility - no success. Maybee a usefull option for VM Importer 2 ?? Is there a way to do this ?? I will port this also in the ESX forum as a ESX question !!
