I am trying to install Vcenter 5.5 on Windows 2012 R2. I followed the instructions, copied ocsetup.exe and installed Active Directory Light Weight Directory Services, The box is not joined to a Domain. Well, the installation wen through, but now when I try to login, it says "You don't have permission to log into the server". Any idea how can the administrator of the box give himself permission to use Vcenter?

I upgraded the kernel on a Red Hat virtual machine, to 3.5, but the VM tools do not compile. Does anybody have any idea how to do this? The Vsphere is a 5.1 and I want to use a newer kernel, for the new one has better NUMA handling, for huge -memory virtual machines. Can somebody help? Federico

I am trying to assign a network card directly to Linux virtual machine, Red Hat 6.3, 64. Also, I am trying to assign an SSD directly to a Linux VM. The SSD is part of a PCI SSD solution from OCZ. Has anybody done this? The Vmware version that I am playing with, not in production, is 5.1. I cannot get the same performance that I get in KVM, but maybe I don't have enough information as how to achieve that.

I was googling about the subject, and found this interesting data about how to use Direct IO: http://www.extremenetworks.com/libraries/solutions/ANDAVMwareESX_1745.pdf Please read an exerpt: "2.1. 2.2. SSH into the ESX server and login with root privileges. Setup the driver to operate with 8 functions (func_ mode=1) and disable L2 forwarding in the EXAR Neterion adapter (L2_switch=0). 2.2.1.     Unload the vxge driver. vmkload-mod –u vxge 2.2.2.     Load the module with the preferred modes for para-virtual. vmkload-mod vxge l2_switch=0 func_mode=1" The question is: Is there a comparable change in parameters like the above "vmkload-mod vxge l2_switch=0 func_mode=1" for the drivers igb, e1000 and bnx? If there are, in fact, how do I make those changes permanent?
I am using putty.exe from windows. I can connect to any linux box, but this one does not even ask me for a username/password.

I think it is insane that there is no SSH access for this product. Unless they use another port than 22. Can somebody confirm this? Also, how do I convert XEN virtual machines to work with ESXi? Did anybody think about that? Furthermore, I have a machine with 16 cores (4 processors with 4 cores each) Am I going to be able to use all these cores in a linux virtual machine? Is there any restriction on Virtual SMP?

The ESXi free offering has a problem that I have not been able to understand. How do I connect via ssh to the host, or use scp to upload files? It does not work as is. It seems that the SSH damon is down. I need to upload the ISO files or virtual machine files. This question seems stupid, but checked all the menus and I cannot find the answer.
