Hello everyone, I cannot login as domain user to restored VM. Unfortunately, I do not know local admin password for this VM because I used my domain admin account to manage it. We use ESX 3.5 Update 4 and vRangerPro as a backup software, . I do not know if I did something wrong before Restore process. I actually removed the bad VM from inventory and then run Restore in vRangerPro. (VM was not bad but it contained corrupted database and application so I decided that I would save some time if I restore VM containing good vesion of db/app instead of doing file level restore and re-configuration later). I was able to restore VM successfully but I am not able to login to it using my domain account. I recieved error message saying something like either domain is not available or machine account is not known ...I thought that I would be able to login to restored VM in the same way as I was able to login to its original but looks like something was changed after restore process. I compared contents of .vmx files of restored VM and of its original which I initially removed from inventory. Both vmx files are identical. I can see this VM in Active Directory, run Manage command but as soon as I try to access remotely Event Log or any other controls I got Access Denied message. Does anyone had similar problem? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have doubts that this issue relates to the wrong NIC selection. I have two RHEL 4 and 5 (32-bit) guests, both with Flexible Adapter type. Both are reconfigured periodically by com.vmware.vcintegrity user. It seems to me that one of these guests (without VMTools) is losing network connection during such reconfiguration. So could someone post the solution for this issue, please! Thank you!

We have MSA1000 and two ESX 3.5 servers connected to it. Our plan is to move to iSCSI SAN this summer and retire MSA1000. We did not pick up the iSCSI model so far. What would be the right way to start this move? Can we have both ESX servers connected to iSCSI SAN and to FC SAN simultaneously using SW initiators for iSCSI? Can we use storage VMotion to move VM files from FC SAN to iSCSI? I would appreciate any advice (or documents) ! Thank you
Could you please let me know what command should I use on the service console to reconfigure VMs to reflect the new port group name? Thank you so much for your help!

Is it right that both nics you use for redundancy (Server console and VMKernel) should be connected to two different physical switches?

Hi everyone, Can I have service console port group, VMKernel port group, VM network port group connected to the same vSwitch connected to two physical nics? Both physical NICs are on the same physical subnet. I am not using any IP storage. Do I need to assign defaul gateway to VMKernel port if VMkernel port, service console port, one VM group port are connected to the same IP subnet and two other VM port groups are connected to two different Ip subnets? Is it right that in my case default gateway for VMkernal port would be the same as for service console? I have two ESX 3.5 servers and VC server 2.5 for about 1,5 year. Initailly there were ESX 3.0.1 and VC server 2. Reading the Server Configuration Guide for ESX 3.5, "VMKernel Networking Configuration" I noticed on page 33: 1. "NOTE: Set a default gateway for the port that you created. VirtualCenter 2 behaves differently from VirtualCenter 1.x. You must use a valid IP address to configure the VMkernel IP stack, not a dummy address." 2. "On the Routing tab, the service console and the VMkernel each need their own gateway information. A gateway is needed if connectivity to machines not on the same IP subnet as the service console or VMkernel." I do not have default gateway set for my VMKernel port but VMotion is working OK... Please advice if I need to add default gateway to my VMKernel port. Also the first question is of big importance too. Thank you very much!

We have two ESX 3.5 servers (HP Proliant DL580) and two Windows 2003 servers (also HP Proliant) connected to MSA1000 using FC HBAs (FCA2214). In EventLog on Windows servers I can see events related to connectivity to MSA1000, like status of HBAs, etc. Could I get the same kind of information from ESX servers? In Event Log on both Windows servers I am getting sporadically the same type of HP Storage Agent errors which may be sign of bad HBA, or FC cable, or MSA Switch...(at least HDs are OK). I do not know how to get logs from these devices on ESX server... Thank you for any advice!

We have entry level HP MSA1000 with one switch, two ESX 3.5 servers and one future VCB proxy server connected to MSA1000 via HBAs, one in each server. MSA1000 has Selected Storage Presentation (SSP) feature which allows to present particular LUN(s) to particular server(s), I think SSP is like zoning on other SANs. According to the latest "Virtual Machine backup Guide", p.41, in order to setup LAN-free Consolidated backup we need to present each LUN containing VM files to VCB proxy server, right? My question is do I need just mark corresponding check boxes for each LUN in SSP or do I need configure anything on VCB proxy (Windows 2003 server) Disk Manager? I do not quite understand how LUNs with NTFS and LUNs with VMFS could coexist on one Windows server.... Thank you for your help and thoughts!
I followed exact instructions in "Patch management for ESX server 3" and was able to install this patch correctly. Thanks!

I see there the first original product only. Could you please help me to figure out what is wrong? Thank you very much! Varvara

Change the setting back now that it is working I changed LVM.DisallowSnapshotLun setting back to 1, refreshed the storage and my LUN again disappeared.
