Hello, this might be a bit specific but I hope someone can answer this: Environment: 2 Dell PowerEdge R910s running the custom Dell image of ESXi 4.1 U1 (Build: 348481) 1 Dell PowerVault MD3200i running on firmware 07.75.28.60 I want to upgrade these to 5.5 eventually but for now I want to just install 4.1 Update 3 (Build: 800380) I also plan to upgrade the firmware for the storage unit to 07.84.44.60 (last compatible firmware for ESXi 4.1) The patchnotes for 4.1 U3 state the following: "PR827512: On ESXi 4.1 Update2 hosts, the default Storage Array Type Plugin (SATP) for LSI arrays was VMW_SATP_LSI, which did not support Asymmetric Logical Unit Access (ALUA) functionality. Starting with this release, SATP Plugin for LSI arrays that supports ALUA is changed to VMW_SATP_ALUA, so that TPGS/ALUA arrays are automatically claimed by the default VMW_SATP_ALUA satp plugin." The LUNs are indeed running on LSI at the moment: and here's the compatibility guide for the MD3200i with ESXi 4.1, as you can see, with the latest supported firmware, it switches to ALUA as well: If I'm reading the patchnotes for U3 correctly, the plugin is only switched SATP for arrays that support it, so my current plan would be to first update the hosts, then the firmware for the storage unit. I just want to avoid any surprises after the update. Any hints?
