They will find it hard when even the Vmware tech's hate it and will openly admit it's rubbish when your on the phone to them!
Very true, i dread having to administer my Vmware instances now!

I just mistakenly installed Vcenter 6 and the web client, i belived the lies and thought they might have improved it.....they haven't!! It's shocking! i would happily pay extra to continue to use the old client! It's terrible! And flash...really? Every heard of HTML5? others are using it and have much better management gui's than this! I'm tempted to format and reload the servers with 5.5!!!!

Hi, We have lots of customers that just have a single server, but need a licensed version of vmware, A) to get support and B) to use Veeam backup. Whoever took essentials away from distribution needs there heads checked, im sure many computer resellers buy this for their customers and do not want invoices to go to the end user. Vmware - please rethink your reseller/partner program because it's a real pain at the moment. Please put essentials back to the disti's to sell. Kris

Hi, Vmware used to be such a simple install, create a third stand alone server, not joined to your virtualised AD and install vcenter or use the appliance. Now Vmware seems to have over complicated the process by adding SSO and the stupidly complicated, clunky and slow web gui. Am i missing something really obvious here? Is there still a simple way to install Vmware and run it like i used to? Unpon trying to install SSO i get loads of errors because my vcenter servers are not on the domain, but i don't want them to be, if i loose my AD because my vm's have gone down the last thing i want is to be struggling to login to vmware to sort them out!!! Please tell me if im missing something or has vmware really got that bad now?? Kris

If you want to make your customers happy, bring back the client. I do agree there is a place for the web client for quick admin tasks and diagnostics when you cannot get to the client but for everything else, i would prefer the client. Please bring it back!!! Even the Vmware support guys hate it and have hinted the the people they talk to for support also hate it. Please bring back the proper client and stop trying to force us to use the inadequate and cumbersome web client. If you are going to bring out a proper web client then make it built into the appliance and easy to configure, without any SSO agents or rubbish to install.
I completely agree, it's not even a 'web client' as you need to load a plugin to be able to use it! Vmware have let their customers down with this one, big time!

Hi, I have performed a few installs now, and im not sure it it's best practice but i always like to keep my ESXi/vcentre network separate from my main corporate network. Reason being i normally virtualize everything and if it all came crashing down i know i can still access my hosts/vcentre to fix it. Is this not best practice? Do Vmware really want you to rely on your visualized AD to run the backbone of your network? Also if it's a new installation, where am i going to get AD/DNS from as i would not have been able to install any VM's yet? I have two hosts i want to deploy and before i would just keep them on a separate subnet, not use DNS and just manage them with a separate network card on my management server/workstation. I have tried to replicate this with 5.5, however i now find that i cannot login to the hosts, i just get '503 Service Unavailable' which is because it cannot find a hostname in DNS apparently. Is this because Vmware have moved everything across to a stupid web gui and are trying to push everyone to use that? I am more then happy using the client and will continue to do so until i am forced to move. How can i make this install work, baring in mind it is being setup with no DNS servers present and will not be part of a AD (because it has no need to be). How can i get rid of the 503 Service Unavailable error? Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have to get these out into production soon. Kris
