The hosts will have a read only copy of the distributed switch so will continue to operate but there is a few unknowns here. Are you wiping the database or just reinstalling vCenter? If reinstalling you will be fine if you keep the existing database.  One thing I would suggest is you snapshot the vCenter server before you start and backup the databases.  Also if it is possible I would move the vcenter VM to a standard switch if you can as without vCenter you can't make any changes to add a vm to a distributed switch so if your Prod vLan is only available on the distributed switch you may have issues if you play around with any network settings of the vCenter Vm.

Just curious if it is normal to see the enclosure on LUN 0 showing up under Storage Adapters. I have an MSA2040 with Dual controllers patched to Brocade switches and 3 Vmhosts on those switches. For some reason under Storage Adapters when I click on the HBA I see my LUNS I created but I also see the enclosure.  Is that normal as I have never noticed it before.

Vmware stop doing what you are doing. Stop trying to sell this polished turd to us.  Stop Stop Stop.  OK now focus and listen. Web client is crap so just scrap it and start again with something that looks like the VIC.  Don't try and let Digital teams and Marketing teams tell you it needs to be funky and look cool and to do this you need to change all the menus and make normal tasks in the VIC now be in nested menus and hard to find. No apologies to the team sipping on Red Bulls, wearing base ball caps backwards and thinking they are awesome developers. Bow Bow.  Get on with it and give us robust platforms with solid Admin tools. Just make it lightweight and simple or go back to the VIC because we don't pay over priced licensing and support costs for this rubbish.

As an update I ended up calling a one of the Engineers from VMware to get an idea what they would say.  Engineer said he has never had to do this and as you said once it is generated and applied to a machine automatically there is no real reason it will change.

Just need some guidance here as I have to install an app on a VM and it requires a static MAC address. I know how to do this on the VM and see it pre populate the first 3 octets but need some guidance on the last 3. Is there a method or place in vCenter to generate or obtain a MAC to use or do I use an online MAC generator. Doco on VMware is a bit vague on this.
