I have a cluster of 4 VSAN 5.5 hosts. in addition to the SSD in each host, each host has 3x1TB drives.  So, 12TB total. I have about 4TB of VMs out there and I'm out of disk space.  Does that seem right? One of the hosts is in Maintenance Mode right now, does that take away from storage capacity? What is the default Failures to Tolerate if you never set a storage policy? If I try to set FTT to 2 now, will take anything down?  I know I may not have enough space to do that right now but I was wondering if there was any downtime in setting this on the fly.

Running vRops 6.3 advanced.  I need to create a monthly capacity report that shows our out for the next 6 months.  Not for our whole environment but just 4 or 5 clusters. I'd also like to exclude storage numbers.  We don't pre-allocate storage to our virtual environment.  We add storage as needed. While vRops says we only have 4TB left in a cluster, we know there is 100TB on the storage that isn't allocated yet.  This seems to throw off everything capacity-wise in vROps in general. I know we have capacity for 1000 VMs with regard to CPU and memory but, any vRops report says we're at capacity because of a lack of storage. How do others get around this?
I'm looking for this also.
I'm very new to vROPS.  I like how you can pick out metrics and quickly save it as a dashboard.  Is there a way to easily turn that dashboard into a report?

I need to grow the disk space in our Data Domain for our Net Backup backups.  I'm trying to get disk space info out of virtual center and none of the numbers match up.  Here's an example.  I have a VM that shows Provisioned space at 140GB.  Used space shows 106GB.  Net Backup says it's backing up 75GB.  Within Windows it shows 55GB being used on the disk.  Net Backup is set to not backup the paging file which is 4GB. The server is thick lazy zero. The numbers just don't add up.  How can I figure out how much disk I need for backups through Virtual Center or vRealize Operations Manager?

I'm very new to vRM.  I have a graph on the stress screen that I want to send to someone (To show them their VM is fine).  Short of doing a print screen, is there an easy way to do this?  Other products I've used have a button on each screen that lets you save the current view as a report, dashboard, link, etc.

Aww, that's what I was afraid of.  thanks for the info.

Over the past week, I upgraded 10 hosts in a cluster from ESXi 5.1 to v5.5 Update 1.  Everything seemed to go well.  The past weekend was Windows patching weekend so, all of our servers rebooted.  About 80 of the 350 VMs in the cluster lost their NIC in the OS.  To fix the issue, I had to do a repair of VMware tools which brought the NIC back.  Then, I had to retype all the static IP address information.  What a pain. Since I upgraded the underlying host to 5.5 and, the VMs all said VMware tools were current before I did the repair, I am assuming that tools was upgraded when the VM rebooted however, I don't see anything in the logs to that effect.  If the VM is set to upgraded on power on, would that show up in tasks and events? Almost all of the VMs were Windows 2008 R2 but, there were a couple 2003. Hardware versions were 7, 8, and 9 Almost all the NICs were VMXNET3 but there were a couple of E1000 on the Server 2003 VMs A couple of months ago we upgraded about 8 hosts in our test cluster to v5.5.  Since that time, the VMs in test have all rebooted at least twice for patching with no issues. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, this environment has several VMs all on the same host with no connectivity outside that host.  The VMs can talk to each other but, not to the outside world.

I have a test lab that is sealed off from the rest of the world with no outside connectivity.  The client uses the lab through Virtual Center.  They sometimes need to get files in and out of this environment.  In the past, I've setup an intermediary VM with 2 NIC and have 2 NICs on each VM in the lab.  This is a pain to setup and I was looking for a better way.

Well, I opened up a ticket with VMware.  We tried the whole Sysprep thing and it still didn't fix it. They're stumped too.  I'm sending them the VMs to test with.
No, I'm not changing the NIC.  It's VMXNET3. I looked for hidden devices or unused numbered NICs in Windows and don't see any. The customization seems to finish.
thank you for the reply but unfortunately, I have left one deployment sitting for over a week now and it is still disconnected.

When I deploy a Windows 7 VM from a template with a customization specification, it is built with the NIC disconnected. If I select "Don't customize", it's fine. If I use the same customization specification with another Windows 7 template, it works fine. The template is set to "connect at power on" VMware tools is up to date We're not using distributed switches We have plenty of ports available on the virtual switch This is a template and a customization specification I have used in the past ..... it has just stopped working. I'm stumped !!!
