You can use PowerCLI to do this migration. It does get tricky, no doubt about it, because your new vCenter will have a new UUID and all of your hosts, VMs, and other objects will get new moref IDs. That can be annoying for monitoring and backup tools. But I have worked with quite a few customers who have done it and have been successful. There is no easy button, unfortunately.
Its still being discussed for the next version. It won't happen in vSphere 6 due to the amount of architectural changes that would be required.

You're more than likely going to have to get GSS involved. Can I ask why you are choosing to use the load balancer as opposed to deploying multiple PSCs and repoint in case of failure? There's no right or wrong answer, just asking. Because of the difficulty in deploying and then operating this setup, many customers just forgo the load balancer and repoint if there is a PSC failure. But that isn't appropriate for ALL environments.

Hopefully most of you have seen this by now, but just in case I'll post it here. We're definitely interested in any and all feedback. Here's an excerpt from the announcement earlier this week: Today we are excited to announce the release of the vSphere HTML5 Web Client Fling. The decision to go with Flash was made years ago, before HTML5 and developer tools were ready. The situation has changed, and we’ve been working very hard on removing the dependency on Flash to improve performance, stability, and security. The Web Client is a huge application with a lot of features, and making the switch to HTML5 will take some time. This first version of the Fling does not contain all the features of the existing Web Client. We focused on providing the most commonly used workflows/features (centering around VMs and Hosts) in this version. This Fling is distributed as an appliance (OVA), so you can easily deploy it within your existing environments. This Fling has been designed to work with your existing vSphere 6.0 environments. You can find browser requirements, download, and installation instructions from our Fling website: https://labs.vmware.com/flings/vsphere-html5-web-client Here's a blog post with the relevant links to get started: vSphere HTML5 Web Client Fling – Getting Started - VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs
Sorry, you're account isn't tagged as a VMware employee. I thought your were a customer. What's the PR number? I'd like to track this so I know when it will be fixed. Thanks!
Did you open an SR to come to this conclusion? If so, could you provide the SR # so I can take a look and potentially request a KB be drafted?

What version of vCenter? This looks pretty nasty and given that you haven't received a response yet, have you opened a ticket with GSS?
What version of ESX? If you're on 6.0 then we can route vMotion traffic. But the underlying network has to be able to route between those two subnets. If not on v6 then photofalk has it covered.

Yes, the only difference is clock speed and number of cores of those two CPUs. A best practice is to have the exact same hardware. However, that's not always possible and we allow for that flexibility. Just note that there are some implications with having dissimilar hardware. This would be a good blog - An often forgotten VMware benefit – Pick and Mix - VMware TAM Blog - VMware Blogs - as well as Duncan and Frank's HA / DRS Deepdive. You'll want to look at slot size and how having different CPU / Memory configuration within the cluster could affect HA (and potentially DRS as well): http://www.yellow-bricks.com/vmware-high-availability-deepdiv/

I completely understand. I'm not sure exactly why it is this way but you are by far not the first person to run into this It is on the radar to be fixed in a future release. Let's assume you were able to use your creativity and accomplish the name change. It would not be supported so that is a huge risk and not one I would advise you take. Sorry for the bad news but I'm hoping we can get this fixed in the future to allow customers the flexibility they need.
Unfortunately you require a full reinstall of vCenter and you'll have to migrate the resources (hosts, VMs, etc) to the new vCenter with the new name.
I'm out of ideas. Have you filed / are you able to file an SR?
Are the VMs the same vHW version?

Is DNS properly configured in the environment? This is a requirement even if using IPs (reverse lookup). NTP is also required.

Sure, I see what you mean. The "real" answer is "it depends". I was trying to give you a guideline but its going to depend on workload characteristics and your particular environment. Is there resource contention? The right path my differ depending on if there is. Some customers can show that similar workloads placed together will perform better. So having a dedicated cluster just for transactional database workloads might benefit from performance, operational simplicity, and DB licensing costs. Other times, when there isn't a high-performing database, it could be mixed with everything else and see sufficient performance. What are your requirements for performance and availability? You see, we can get specific, but its going to depend on your specific situation and requirements. And that's why I say, "in general". Hope that helps a little more!
