Hi, I'm looking for a solution for a redundant fileserver service on vSphere. The environment is mainly Windows and users accessing 24x7. Shared SAN is available. I have the following requirements: The service can be maintained (patched etc.) during operation The data can be backed up with the standard VMware means (API, e.g. VEEAM) HA is not an option as the FS-VM can't be maintained (patched etc) during operation DFS-R proved to be no reliable enough during a pilot installation Microsoft Cluster across Boxes also is not an option as you need either iSCSI within the VMs or RDMs and both can't be backed up with the API (VEEAM). It's also quite complex and hard to maintain. Any suggestions/ideas? __Leo

Hi, I have a cluster running vSphere 6 on 4 Intel Server with latest CPU architecture (E5 v3). VMs have been migrated offline from an AMD cluster. Now I can't enable any Intel EVC mode. How can I find out the VMs blocking the EVC mode? To my understanding, alle VMs that have been started on the new cluster should be all right. Cheers __Leo

Hello, I have a vCenter 6.0U1 appliance with a corrupted web-client. Is it possible to migrate the db of an appliance to a fresh installed appliance like the update wizard does, perhaps even use the update wizard to do a 6.0 to 6.0 "update"? BTW, the vCenter holds the vDS config, so rip and replace is not an option. __Leo

Hello, I have an environment with several vcenters und update-managers. Most of the vcenters are 5.0 but one is 5.1 and we will update to 5.1 one by one. I have one central machine from which I'd like to automate update handling with powersehll, but of curse, this machine would have to have both VUM PowerCLI versions installed. Is there a trick to install both and load the required snapin as needed? I know it's not officially supported... Cheers __Leo

Hello, I'm trying for quite a while to find a way to add offline patches (drivers etc.) to a VUM repository. Powershell doesn't have a commandlet. I found the command "vmware-vciCli.exe" in the VUM directory which has the option "--import-patch <arg>" but it only throws errormessages in vc and on the cli. I also found the document "Creating a vSphere Update Manager Depot" http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/vsphere-50-update-manager-depot.pdf but I can't find the tool "vibpublish" mentioned in the document. Has anyone any experience with this tool and knows where to find it? Cheers __Leo

Hi, is there a chance to filter out the uplink portgroups in the get-virtualportgroup when used on distributed switches (exept the name, which is not secure enough)? I can't find a definite property, not even in the extensiondata but I'm not an expert in browsing the API documentation either. Any idea? __Leo

Hello, I'm thinking about using only the sso and web components of the vcsa, especially in upgrade scenarios. Is there a way to permanently disable all unused services (vCenter, Inventory, Dump Collector, Syslog etc.) to keep the footprint as low as possible and to avoid having an unused vCenter in sso? Luc, thanx for your help, very appreciated! This is a pain in the a.... Im working on a project in a larger environment where releasemanagemnet shall be implemented and the guideline will be the HP support recipe which contains, among others, firmware and drivers. I'd like to automate the process as far as possible and VUM is a major compionent. But this is a missing link in the in the whole process. __Leo

Hi Luc, I'm talking about the drivers e.g. listed on the VMware download page as iso(!) files or the drivers provided in the vibsdepot by hp. There is no url you can add into the download config of VUM and therefore you can't use the Download-Patch commandlet. In the GUI, you have to go to the Patch Repository, then click on "Import Patches" and then go through the dialogues. Of curse you have to unpack the pathes first form the iso files or zip archives, but that part can be done by script, I have this already in place to use these patches in a custom installation iso. Now I want to upload these patches in the VUM repository and build a baseline form this. As there is no commandlet, perhaps there is a way to use the API, but I'm not that deep into programming so I could figure aout how to do this... __Leo

Hello, I'd like to keep the device drivers updated in the repository of VUM. Doing this manually is a pain but there is no commandlet to import the patches to the repository. Hello, I'm trying to find a way to download all recent drivers from the VMware download page with a script or similar. It's quite annoying  to click on every driver on the "Drivers & tools" Tab, click on "Driver CDs", "View Download", "Manually Download", Reopen the "Driver CDs" section and so forth. A link where all the drivers can be found in a singl location, a script, whatever would be very helpful. The goal is to finally have them in update manager an create baselines from it. Any idea? __Leo

Ivan, the more non redundant parts you add, the more unreliable it gets. If I am to put another Windows host in the chain, I'll directly put vco on it. Perhaps in another release of the vco appliance add iptables and add a workflow to redirect the snmp traffic If you are serious about trap handling, you have to use port 162. I had a quick glance on some of my devices and non of them can use an alternate port. Thanx for your help anyway! __Leo
