This is our next plan. Power down, remove NIC, power back up and make sure it didn't leave a ghost NIC in device manager. Power down again and add NIC back in.

Thanks.  I'm going to add this to the things to check next time.

The OS is Server 2012R2 fully patched SQL is the only thing running on one of the VMs.  The other one is running just the Informatica application.  It is fully compatible with 2012.  We did a rebuild of this system last summer.  We wanted to go with 2016 but, we verified with the vendor that only 2012 is supported. Anti-Virus software has been uninstalled.

We have considered this. We were going to uninstall tools, delete the nic, re-add the nic, and install tools.  Initially, Vmware tools was not up to date so, we updated it.  I thought for sure that would fix it. Microsoft wants to setup some tracing for when it happens again so, I'm not sure if we'll make a change until after it happens again.

This is going to be a long one. We have a ticket open with Vmware, hardware vendors, and Microsoft on this one. Going in circles We have 2 VMs running on the same host.  Over the past 2 weeks, these VMs have dropped off the network about 5 times. To fix it, you have to disable and re-enable the NIC While the VM is down, you can't ping anything. Not the gateway, not another VM on the same host on the same virtual switch, not another VM in the environment. Vmotion to another host doesn't fix it The VM is not under heavy load when this happens. Ipconfig /all look normal. Disconnecting and re-connecting the NIC at the VM hardware level doesn't fix it There are entries in the Windows event logs that are a symptom of the VM being disconnected from the network (Can't resolve host names, authentication errors, etc) but, there is no event showing that the NIC disconnected. This is on a Vblock. VCE has looked at everything hardware-wise and see nothing. No indication that there was even an outage. Vmware has looked at everything and see nothing on the ESXi side. Vmware tools is up to date. Microsoft is looking at it and still can't find anything. Any thoughts? Any ideas on what else I can test for?
So, a ticket to Vmware fixed it.  They had to go in and edit the DB to stop it from trying to remove a node.

I didn't run the Upgrade assessment tool because it said that if you had run it to upgrade to 6.7, you didn't need to run it this time.  I'll give that a shot though. thanks

I'm trying to do an upgrade of our 6.7 Vrops environment. After the PAK is uploaded and verified, I get "Can't start upgrade, node removing in progress".  This is for the OS upgrade piece. I've rebooted the servers, I've taken the cluster offline.  It's 3 nodes. It's the out of the box config.  I have added any plug-ins or fancy dashboards.  Any ideas?

I recently switched our hosts from boot from SAN to boot from SD card.  We had a host PSOD ..... no logs.  Vmware confirmed as of last week that a scratch partition is NOT automatically created on an SD card.  You would think this would come up as a big flashing option during the install.  Something that says "Hey you !!!  Do you want to create persistent storage for your logs?" I can understand when a "Large" SD card was 8GB, you might not want to automatically create a 2GB scratch partition.  But now? So my question is... is there an easy way to create and use a partition on an SD card?
Good call.  IT does work in incognito mode.  So, I've got a browser thing going on.   Thanks

Ah, so your question is, "When would you Vmotion"?  If you're putting a VSAN host in Maintenance Mode to patch, VSAN has a few new options. No data Evacuation - This leaves everything right where it is. I don't know when you'd ever use this option. If you power off a host, you could lose access to VMs Ensure data accessibility - This moves some of the data off the host so you can reboot it without losing access to VMs. I think this is the default. Depending on what you have Failures to tolerate set to and the number of hosts in your cluster, you may lose redundancy while the host is off or rebooting. If another host reboots while the first one is down, VMs will go offline. Evacuate all data to another host - This is the safest option but, it can take FOREVER. In some cases, it could take all day.  And, yo have to have enough free space available on the other hosts. It'll tell you right away if you don't have enough space though.
Does the VM have a snapshot?
How many nodes in your VSAN cluster? Vmotion works the same with VSAN as it does with any other Vmware environment I think.

Is there a way to run a powershell script during the SRM cleanup process? SRM v6.5 Here's the situation We have two production domain controllers at our DR site that are up and running all the time. These are for VPN authentication and DNS for the infrastructure. During a DR test, we shut these down and use clones of these DCs for the test.  This way, anything we do during the DR test isn't going to impact the production DCs. When the DR test is done, we delete the clones and power the production DCs back on. I have a script that does the DC shutdown, clone, and power on of the clones.  This script is at the beginning of the recovery plan.  It works great. I'd like to script the deletion of the clones and the power on of the production DCs but, I don't know where to stick it.  Ideally, the cleanup process is where it should go.  I thought about putting a pause at the end of the recovery plan and then the deletion script but, if somebody accidentally answers the prompt, it could bring up the production DCs on the same network as other older restored DCs. Any help anyone could provide would be ... uh .... helpful.
