Hi, Apologies for the incorrect inputs in the above post. Earlier post pointed steps to change the CBM Server IP . To change the DB IP address, we dont have a utility built in. We would need to change in Hibernate Config files manually. The file is present in multiple location like Apache-tomcat folder, DC folders(VC DC,VCD DC and VSM DC)  and same files would be present in all the nodes and load balance setup. The file name that needs to be changed is "hibernate.cfg.xml". Please find the location(in the attached image) of the file where changes has to be made. Note changes has to be made in line - <property name="connection.url">jdbc:sqlserver://;serverName=<Replace the new ip address>;databaseName=<DatabaseName></property> Thanks Pramod.

Hi, As I understand, You are getting zero values for CPU, Memory and Storage when you generate a report for VCD Hierarchy. There can be many reason for this, We can start looking from the basic cause of zero values. 1. Can you please verify if the Base rates are non zero values 2. Can you please verify if the VCD is having Allocation pool or PayAsYouGo. 3. Can you please verify if the Pricing Model has correct Billing policy which measure Usage or Allocation. 4. Can you please verify if the Pricing Model has configured correctly for the dates and VM which wer are trying to bill fall under that Time period. Thanks Pramod.

Hi, This can happen if the rate factor is set at the Edit infrastructure cost at datastore level  and rate factor set at Edit entity cost. When this is the case, CBM picks up the value set in Edity Entity cost and overrides the value set for datastore. One more thing that we need to very careful is while setting rate factor at parent leve, by default the values set at the parent level propagates to its child. Thanks Pramod.

Hi, We need more information on this issue. 1 . Is the vCOPS integrated to VC that is used in the CBM. 2. Is the Dash Board reports configured  and enabled in CBM (Tools - Dashboard). 3. If the Dashboard reports is configured and enabled, was the Running Dashboard reports cancelled by any chance from Reports->Running reports tab? Thanks Pramod.
Hi Peter, For the case you have mentioned, Overage Functionality can be used. Please refer the User Guide for Overage Functionality. Thanks Pramod.

Hi, Attribute functionality can be used to solve this issue. For using the Attributes, we need not re-name all the VM. We need to create 2 attribute standard-mirrored (SM) or enterprise-plus (EP) and assign to the VM in the Hierarchy and you can generate the report. But Attributes cannot be applied to VM which has 2 Hard Drives one residing on Standard-Mirrored and another enterprise-plus. The kind of reporting that is expected in the above query is not support in CBM Thanks Pramod

Hi wisbeech, As I understand from the above comments. You are trying to generate a COST REPORT for the back dated Custom Hierarchy. When we do a back date on a Hierarchy, Charge Back manager populates the data for all the entities in that Hierarchy for past 3 months from the current date only. From the above comments, you are trying the generate the report From April 1st 2013  which is too far back. Considering Nov 12 2013 as current date, when we do a back date, Charge Back Manager populates data till Current date - 3 months (appox Aug 12 2013.) which mean on the Hierarchy, we can generate reports where we can give the start as Aug 12 2013. and end date as current date. This back date feature should be only used for demo purpose and not in real time production envirnoment. Thanks Pramod.

Hi, Please find the answer to question posted above in the same order. Answer to Q1 When the tool is run, we will start getting the split stats of network (transmitted + received) and datastore (read + write). Definitely we will be storing more stats and this will have space implications. However, the amount of extra space that will be needed depends on the no. of devices per VM i.e. the no. of VNICs for network and datastores associated with a VM. This is because the split stats are available per VM, per device. Chargeback publishes a 'Database Sizing Tool (in the form of an Excel sheet)' to estimate the DB size based on the count of VMs, duration, enabled counters. Please refer to the documentation about this guide to estimate the DB size increase. Answer to Q2 This will also increase/affect db sizing of vCenter as well. So, you need to plan for that as well. Usually, you should not face any problem in CBM/vCenter because of this. In case, if you face any problem, you can revert. Already ran reports in CBM are not affected, but further reports which generates usage/cost for these split counters, will not give any data. If the setting is reverted the cost /usage report will have only the aggregate stats and not the split stats. There will be *NO* side effects. Answer to Q3 Yes, The tool needs to be run on each vCenter Server. Even in case of a linked VC configuration every VC maintains its own configurations. Thanks Pramod.

Hi, ChargeBack Application is working as mentioned in the User Guide. Please refer the Section 5 - Managing and Configuring vCenter Chargeback Manager Cost Elements --> Managing Billing Policies --> Create a Billing Policy This section says that " Billing policies should account for all the resources." That is the reason user is getting this message while creating Billing Policy. Thanks Pramod.

Hi Nergal, Apologies for comming back late on your query. Please find the below answers for your questions number - 1,2,3. I need more info on 4th and 5th questions. 1. We want to charge a fixed cost for each external IP used per VM. Is this possible with Chargeback?                   No, Currently ChargeBack cannot charge FC for each IP used per VM as Charge Backdoes not store external IP related information. ChargeBack applies the defined rates for the External Network accessed but not for specific external IP used by VM.                     However, Charge Back can apply FC for External Network accessed. This can be achieved as mentioned below, Tag the VM's which access the External Network by adding a attribute at hierarchy level. Creating a FC cost with desired value add to pricing model and Under Rules Tab of Pricing Model configure FC to applied to the Attribute which is created in point 1.   Once the report is generated, One time FC is charged for Vm's which accessed External Network with the help of Attribute.               2. We have 3 different storage tiers (Gold, Silver, Bronze) and we want to charge different for disk read/write for each of them. Is this even possible?                 Yes, this is possible in ChargeBack. Under Settings we need to select Profile based "Storage Infrastructure Costing" as profile based. And then we need Create a Pricing model which is configured to bill for Disk read/write. And then go to "Configure cost" tab --> "Edit Infrastructure cost" and select storage profile and assign the Pricing model.   Now, We have configured ChargeBack to bill for a Particular Storage policy for Disk Read/Write. (Note- This can be done only when CBM-VC config and not CBM-VCD config)     3. We also want to include a certain amount of data read/write and network transfer/receive per month for an organisation in vCloud. So we want to set allocation units for each organisation and then add base rates with overage (free up to allocation and over allocation set a cost). Do we have to set these allocation units per VM under the organisation or is it enough to set them for the organisation only?        Yes, Query in Point3 can be achieved in current ChargeBack. VM allocation can be set organisation level. First, billing policy has to be created for data read/write and network transmitted /received as allocation then this Billing Policy has to be added to a Pricing model. In Pricing Model - Base Rates tab, Select Overage for data read/write and network transmitted /received and set the "Upto Allocation Units, Charge" to zero USD/GB per hour. Set "Beyond allocation, Charge" to desired value and save the setting.           Now, Go to "Manage Hierarchy" Tab and selected the Organisation Unit, Right click and select "Set Allocation Units". Now set the desired value which needs to be exempted for data read/write and network transmitted /received and Save the settings.   With the above configuration in ChargeBack, Up to the allocated Units @ Organisation level for the resource types selected the charges will not be applied once the set allocation is crossed then ChargeBack applies for base rate set in the Pricing Model. Can you please come back to us with a  example for th question.  This would help to answer the question precisely. We would need some more time to answer your 4th question. Thanks Pramod.
