Very nice, I wish I had this about 3 months ago .  One thing I missed, which is sort of in an odd place in the documentation (IBM admitted to me it wasn't clearly spelled out) is in the non-preconfigured environment you do not attach the mirrored datastores at the recovery site.  I made that mistake and when I ran a test it bombed on step 8 because it couldn't find the storage.  Once I pulled that away it worked as advertised.  Thanks for this detailed procedure!
Hi, Are there any best practices or recommendations on AV exclusions on the SRM server itself? Thanks, Thom

I resolved this issue today.  It turns out that the storage should not be mapped to the ESXi hosts at the recovery site.  The User Guide for the SRA didn't have that at a configuration requirement.  Once I unmapped the drives, cleaned up the mirrors, and the recovery plan and protection groups and re-ran the test it worked fine. Hi, I have been receiving the following error message when I attempt to recover a VM, Windows 2012 R2 on a 100G datastore and a physical mode RDM attached: 8. Change Recovery Site Storage to Writeable Error - Failed to recover datastore 'SRM-TestDS'. VMFS volume residing on recovered devices '"52"' cannot be found. Thanks, Thom
FYI, I ended up using the SRA for the systems with the RDMs.  Thanks for the assist.
Thanks!

Hi, I have a site that I set up that has Windows 2012 R2 guests with RDMs set in physical compatibility mode.  When I go through the vSphere Replication wizard for these servers I can configure replication for the guest and as expected I cannot set it up for the RDM (which is fine, I have those covered by the SRA) but on the last step it errors out with the following: Configure a virtual machine for replication VRM Server runtime error. Please check the documentation for any troubleshooting information. The detailed exception is: 'HMS can not set disk UUID for disks of VM : ManagedObjectReference: type = VirtualMachine, value = vm-34, serverGuid = C5ABE757- 9697-4C6A-A36B-F98F72EFB5GG'. Thanks Chris, I'll see what I can do.
Yes they are (sorry for the delayed response).

Hi, I'm hoping someone has seen this issue in the past and can help me out.  I have SRM 5.5 set up between two sites.  On the protected site when I make the connection to the Recovery site I have to put in the hostname\administrator and then the password to connect, administrator by itself with the password does not work.  Going the other way (recovery to protected) when I connect I only need to put in administrator and then the password.  Thanks, Thom

I know this is an old post but I have this solved.  You have to create separate storage groups for each host and then individually add the boot LUN to each to reserve LUN ID 0 (it has to boot from here.)  Once you have all of those configured you then go and add the datastore LUNs to all of the ESXi storage groups one at a time until all of them are added to all group.  This guarantees all of the datastores will have the same LUN ID across the cluster.
